Vantec Aeroflow = crap?

I bough a Vantec Aeroflow from newegg a while back, installed it. But everytime under idle or minimal usage, my CPU temps go 45C-47C degrees idle, to low 52 degrees under stress using CPU burn-in. These are awefully high I think. I use artic silver 3 on my 2.0GHz processor and heatsink.

I know they have an artic silver 5 now and maybe even a 6, would that help me much?
Or should I just get a whole new heatsink fan combo? I got the vantec because the ratings on newegg were good and it seems to work really well. But I guess not for me.

I chose the Aeroflow because of this review, and I've been very happy with it so far. According to their data, it can cool every bit as much as the Zalman everyone is going ga-ga over. Only it's 1/2 to 2/3 the price, and it doesn't have the oversized heatsink problem. Plus it's much lighter weight, I believe.

I have yet to even see my system go above 40c even under heavy load.

I'm not a pro at cooling, but I had similar problems myself. I think the old tried and true recommendation to try removing, cleaning, and re-installing the HSF might be in order.

If not, maybe someone else can suggest something for you..

Edit: Also review your case flow. If your case doesn't have good intake and outake, even the best fan won't cool it much because it's just circulating the same hot air inside the case. The optimum setup would be intake on front of case, outtake at a blowhole on top and back by the PSU. My side window fan is also set to expel air.

I tried to reseat it, helped a little but those tempteratures i listed were after i cleaned it. I have an antec case with 2 fans so I'm pretty sure its not the case. Anyone reccomend anything better than artic silver?

Have had a couple of three Aeroflows... love 'em! Sure it's not a case of too much paste?

also,it may take up to 3 days before you see any changes from the time you applied the thermal paste . 🙂
