VANTEC 120mm Stealth Fan

Hello,

I am planning on purchasing an Antec Sonata case soon and am trying to figure out what kind of 120mm fan to use for intake. I have been looking at the VANTEC 120mm 'Stealth' double ball bearing fan, it is rated at 28db and moves 56cfm (the 120mm L1A Panaflo is rated at 30db and ~64cfm I believe). Has anyone had any experience with this VANTEC, is it relatively quiet? I was trying to find the Pabst fans but they aren't available locally and I can't find any for order on a Canadian site (I don't think it's worth paying the exchange rate and shipping).

Thanks for any experiences.

The Vantec 80mm and 92mm are notoriously loud for being called stealth and for what they are rated. The Panaflo is a very good fan according to many people. Beware thought that it is 38mm deep compared to the standard 25mm. I am not sure if this will fit in the stock mounts or not. The Panaflo hooked up to a rheobus or the Truepowers fan header at 5-7 volts should be near silent.

In terms of real loudness to my ears, the Panaflo and Nidec/Vantec Stealth sound about the same.
Nidec at 5-7v is pretty much silent, the Panaflo at 5-7v is a bit louder and has a notiable clicking sound.

Its Papst, Pabst is beeeeer.

Maybe look up on some other brands?

I had a 92MM Vantec Stealth it was LOUD... I have a 120MM and 92MM Panaflos and they are silent...

Your going to need to supply your own rubbers for the Panflo since the included rubbers only fit 25mm fans.

Uhh..have you really checked out the Sonata? The 2nd fan mount is in the center of the case between the drive mounts and the M/B. It's hard to qualify this position as an "intake"....

Thanks for the tips guys.

For some reason the place I buy all my gear from only seems to stock the Panaflo's in 80mm 🙁. The Vantec Stealth is the only decent 120mm fan they stock, the other being the Evercool Aluminum but I haven't read anything about it (rated at <30 db).

Yep I've seen the front fan placement on the Sonata and agree it's probably not very good for intake but it would move some air. I'm planning on testing the case with and without a 120mm behind the drive cage and seeing if it makes a difference in both temperature and noise. The thing I like about the case is it has two fan leads that are already at 7V which is good for keeping noise down.

Anyone know of a place where I can mail order Papst or Panaflo L1A in 120mm, preferably in Canada?

He's referring to the rubber inserts that go into the fan's holes and connect it to the case chassis. Just a replacement for screws...

Call them what ever you want. The point is that the rubbers, rubber grommets, rubber inserts, rubber fan screws, fan insolaters, included with the Sonata don?t accommodate a fan larger than 25mm in width. Case closed.

Case reopened. They worked fine with my Panaflo. Case closed. Geek.
