I found this link on another board I frequent. It's a long article but a very interesting read, and has excerpts of the tapes as well. Gives a good look into what was going on and reveals things I had no idea about.

I read this and listened to all the tapes the other day. I hestitated to post it because of a certain fly species it may draw...

It was pretty clear that there wasn't good system integration - NORAD, the FAA, and the airlines. Shocking too how few armed fighters we had ready to scramble for the entire US. I wonder if that's changed? And also the pentagon was more concerned about covering it's collective poltical ass than admitting faults in the system and improving.

PS: Pics?

Repost.

Edit: is the search just messed up or was the old one deleted (I searched for my posts, and words I know were in my posts in the merged thread, and got nothing)?

What was funny was the fact Cheney was bragging he ordered the planes to be shot down, real macho. Of course he did it after the last plane (93) was down. Good thing he was on the ball and decided to lie about the fact for years.

PS. Pics?

If I may comment. There was an little known article a few years ago that never made the main stream american press on this topic. The systems these people are using have major differences. I hesitate to say descrepancies becuase that would indicate something is wrong with both systems.
yet the real difference is each system was designed for a different purpose.
Also I found it very hard to believe that in the time it would take a passenger airliner taking off from what is it Dales International Airport and heading for the White House no jet fighter would be able to intercept the airliner before it hit the white house unless by some miracle we had a few already in the air for some other purpose.
Yet who knows if they have corrected these discrepancies? It falls under the heading of national security you can bet we will never know.
