"Buggy as fvck" seems to be a common issue people have with it. The devs released the game early because they ran out of funding apparently. Or so I've read.

I only played a little bit of the VG beta, but you really can't compare the two, as they're extremely different and appeal to very different audiences. It's like comparing Counterstrike to Final Fantasy. I can say that the WoW expansion is pretty much universally regarded as fantastic and has really rekindled my waning interest in the game - I love it.

put it to you this way, remember the faction grind and raid grinding of WOW once you had made 60 that everyone complained about?

Now, imagine a game where...
1. Grinding is a way of life
2. Bugs are a way of life
3. Corpse runs are a way of life
4. It can take an hour to get a group together with friends if your on other continents
5. You can easily spend and hour just traveling

IOW - its not WOW because its a grind.

WoW is 100x better to me.

WoW is actually fun to play. I much prefer WoW's graphics/art style to the shiny platic look of Vanguard too.

I was in Vanguard Beta.

In concept the game was good but implemented poorly. Performance is bad, lots of bugs. For instance they don't leash mobs. So training mobs are back. And actually this is something they chose to implement. No instances, so its a camp fest for many dungeons. Lots of reported, loss of exp/items from bugs. Very volitale class changes.

Its a good year from being playable.

aren't they always? with the exception of wow, heh.

Wow took a while to fix server stability and lag spikes that plagued it early on... not to mention staring at the "authenticating" screen for half an hour.

The only place where Vanguard is better than WoW is the player base in terms of maturity. I quit WoW because of the player base that was full of idiots. Sure, there are a lot more nice folks than them, but the idiots were around 100x times louder so you never ran out of them wherever you went.

For everything else Vanguard is simply a complete disappointement. The game, even though I had been looking forward to it for years, has nothing going for it. Maybe if it can last a year and get 1 expansion at least it will become what it should have been. Until then , it's not worth it unless you also happen to play other SoE games and have Sony Station Access.

Yeesh, this forum is biased against anything thats not WoW. Blizzard released WoW about 6 months too early, and disregarded all the information gained from their stress test betas, resulting in the loot lag (still an issue, the logging in lag, the lag spikes in game, staring at authenticating for hours(some times days, and a still crappy patching system.

As it was already pointed out, VG canters to a different audience. The diplomacy and crafting spheres are extremely good and will keep me in VG for a while.

Its buggy, I won't disagree with that statement, but bugs are being fixed with every patch. Compared to when it started Phase 5 beta, this is a night and day difference.

Loot lag was introduced in the stress test on purpose, by the way. Most of the issues that I incurred while testing were gone from the actual release. Of course, there was the occasional stuck looting issue. The authenticating issue has been gone for awhile now. The only complaint you can really have is that it takes them forever to actually implement good ideas. An example of such being the ability to immediately log back into a character that was disconnected (for whatever reason). Before you had to wait until the character auto logged off to get back on.

Yeah, that's pretty common with almost every Blizzard game. It's one of the reasons why I don't play with other people or try not to at least.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of an MMO? You're essentially paying 15/month to kill the same thing repeatedly all by yourself. :p

i'm sorry but you're 1st comment is completely untrue. i see the same amount of douchebags and idiots in every mmorpg i have ever played, and yes, that includes EVE.

Kind of haha.... well, I guess I should've stated it a bit better. I do play with people, but very rarely will I play with someone that I don't know. I tend to be very picky about people that I play with and very very critical of how they play. If they play poorly, I don't want to play with them... they're wasting my time.

Like I met some Paladin yesterday and he played fairly well, yet he was really really bad at removing debuffs off of himself and I ended up removing most of them myself. He also never removed any debuffs off of us that I can't remove (i.e. magic). This annoyed me a bit, but the fact that he played fairly well in a team made up for it.

That went a lot better than when I played from someone in a guild called <The Experts>. The guy whispered me asking for how to do the best possible DPS spec-wise (as a warrior). I told him he's probably best off in Arms, and he said he was in arms, but he was dual-wielding .

Oh and what's wrong with a glorified instant messenger? ;)

This to me sounds like what Everquest 1 used to be like. Isnt VG made by the same ppl from EQ1?

It's good enough. I look at it this way - the concept of the game is geared toward a more mature audience, one that does not cream their pants at spending 80-bajillion DKP to get some piece of ubar lewt, or having an orgasm over gang raping a hapless noob.

While I will honestly say that I am currently playing EQ2, it is not a waste as I have Vanguard... I'm simply playing EQ2 because I have a station account and I can, and right now until more "kinks" get worked out I will continue to play EQ2 as I find it more enjoyable than Vanguard at this time. But I will give VG a better shake a month or two down the road.

I played both and currently play Vanguard:

WOW:
Actual PVP isn't that bad, it's fairly easy, balanced, etc, but the reward system blows. (I stopped playing last Spring).
The crafting system is too linear. Only way to craft good items is to grind faction and takes insane resources that must be raided for.
End game raiding is grinding 5 hour instances constantly.
Traveling is too easy. It takes away from the feeling of a large world where it's truely epic to go on an adventure. In WoW, I played a mage and could go anywhere in about 10 mins.
Not enough variation in loot.
Easy to solo level. (good or bad).

Vanguard:
In theory, Vanguard is a better game, but the implementation is incomplete, buggy, and imbalanced.
Crafting system is awesome. It's a much larger grind, but it's like another game in itself. You can actually make useful items.
Harvesting system is more realistic and complete.
FFA PVP.
PVP is very imbalanced. Healing classes own.
Player housing, ships.

Overall, WoW is probably the better game, but I've had enough of it. Vanguard is pretty fun and hopefully it gets better in time.

Don't ever let "The Vision" into (or back into if you played EQ) your life! Run away! Doom! Despair!

I'll never touch another game by Brad Whatshisface or SoE again. Now Warhammer and Darkfall... there's something to look forward to.

Characters in VG look like they're floating along the ground, instead of running on it. It looks strange, and it's probably because the characters have that shiny plasticky look to them.

I just tried the trial for VG and I have to say that I hate everything about it. I enjoyed EQ2 more than VG.

The graphics are one of the main reasons that I can't stand VG. People used to complain about "cartoony" WoW graphics, but VG looks beyond artificial.
