Doubt many people are still playing VG though. The game had such potential until they decided to copy WoW and released too early.

Yep, I was looking forward to it greatly. I just hope Warhammer Online is not a huge letdown as well:(

Anyway, it is good to see that Sony is trying to salvage it. It seems that three high fantasy MMORPGs under one company is a bit overboard.

SOE has more MMOs under their belt than anyone else. EQ1, EQ2, MXO, SWG, Planetside, VG, and will probably see more in the coming years. Not counting expansions.

Sadly, I can let you down on that. A friend of mine just got into the Warhammer beta, and I can officially say (I'm not in it so no NDA for me) it looks like just another WoW knockoff. I'm having trouble deciding if the artwork is decidedly the same or not as WoW. I have to see more of the world as time goes on, but nearly everything screams WoW in Warhammer, right down to the mini-map. The only realistic differences (lol, differences yeah right) is they call their PvP system Realm vs. Realm, since it is Mythic after all.

On a side note my friend did say that they adhere pretty strictly to the tabletop Warhammer rule sets.

I'm hearing that this patch decreased the amount of exp needed per level, people logged on at high levels like 46 and were suddenly 50. That's a pretty big change.. Personaly I wouldn't be happy.

Some people quit a couple months after reaching lvl cap. They just took gameplay away from them.

Some people will be mad that all the effort they put into gaining those last 4 lvls were just handed out freely to people that didn't "earn" it.

I thought the days of them screwing with the xp requirements were done after they modified it several times after release already, all of which upset me.

Doesn't VG still lack a lot of end-game content too? If so, what are they thinking by making it easier, yet again, to reach end-game?

Technically you can't officially say anything because your friend is under NDA not to show it to you...

I dont believe anyone claimed that WoW has bad PvE...

Its mythics PvP model that makes the game attractive, and RvR in dark age was better than WoWs PvP system across the board.

On a side note: You think Blizzard invented the minimap?

Of course not, but if Warhammer's UI looks identical to WoW's, can you say 'Lazy Devs'?

Have you compared Dark Ages with WoWs?

Never played Dark Age of Camelot. I though we were discussing War hammer's similarity to WoW?

DAOC was before wow, and made by the same company that is developing warhammer.

Hence the similar interfaces.

DAoC's interface had some common elements to modern UI's, but only when it came to toolbar and chat window. Warhammer's UI is basically a complete ripoff of the WoW model - toolbars, XP bars, Minimap, quest tracker, etc, etc, etc.

And seriously, there are absolutely no realistic differences in the PvP model. RvR mechanics are essentially the same as typical PvP, except that it's usually contained withing an "RvR-specific" area, and they throw in some goodies like capture the flag or whatnot. Basically the battlegrounds in WoW.

I think the best thing for vanguard right now would be for them to close the servers, take the game offline.
Then take about a year to fix the issues and re-release it as an open beta.
All those who already bought it would get back into the game for free and those who haven't purchased the game would get to see that the game had really changed.

The way it is now, the game has such a bad rep that no matter what patches they release people aren't going to flock to it.

Only they arent an afterthought to the game.

You dont respawn 15 seconds after dieing with full health and mana in the center of the fighting so you can suicide bomb like a tard into people again.

A far better long term reward system that doesnt turn pvp into "yet another gear grind".

And the frontier concept gives people a place to go to pvp, and prevents griefing.

Im *NOT* a warhammer fanboi, but to say its the same as wow is completely off base. They are both MMOs, and the interfaces are similar. If you want an ultra creative interface, it supports XML, come up with something better and call yourself interface jesus for all i care.

Unfortunately, the "publisher's" pockets will never allow that to happen. As long as there are paying subscribers that offset the infrastructure base cost... it will stay open.

Closing a game and servers for a year means more development costs... costs that will never be recouped even with a re-release of the game. The name has been tainted already, so who in their right mind would go out and buy a known craptastic reputation for $50 a copy? It doesn't matter if it's a completely new game... it's too late.

SOE does have extensive overhaul plans for VG, which do include a re-release of the game. Last I heard this was coming around Jan 08, but that was only a tentative date.
