I saw the opening show in Charlotte. Awesome.

Eddie was ripping, DLR was awesome...he sang, even. Alex is a monster and Teen Wolf can PLAY.

I've been a fan since the late 70's. Before Charlotte, I'd seen them twice with DLR, 5 times with Sammy, and twice with Gary Cherone.

Let me tell you....they've never sounded or played any better than they did two nights ago.

If you even remotely like Van Halen, or real rock, go see this tour. You will not be disappointed.

All the naysayers and doubters have been, or will be silenced. The boys delivered the goods, big time.
The setlist is really good. All DLR-era songs.

This is the tour of the year, and probably the decade. See it if you're a rock fan.

Setlist:
01. You Really Got Me
02. I'm the One
03. Runnin' With the Devil
04. Romeo Delight
05. Somebody Get Me a Doctor
06. Beautiful Girls
07. Dance the Night Away
08. Atomic Punk
09. Everybody Wants Some
10. So This Is Love?
11. Mean Street
12. Pretty Woman
13. Drum Solo
14. Unchained
15. I'll Wait
16. And the Cradle Will Rock
17. Hot for Teacher
18. Little Dreamer
19. Little Guitars
20. Jamie's Cryin'
21. Ice Cream Man
22. Panama
23. Guitar Solo
24. Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

ENCORE:
25. 1984
26. Jump

The cool thing about hot shows these days? Their best performance will be on DVD a few months afterwards ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the show. At this late date in their careers, I'll have to pass. Seen them a few times in their heyday though, definately put on a great live show.

Is this only 1 leg of the tour? They're not playing anywhere in the South! I'm amazed they aren't playing in Nashville, Atlanta or somewhere down here.

Van Halen was my first concert back in 1989/1990!

I just looked up lower bowl prices. $163!!!

Ahh, I think I'll pass. The last two times I saw them it was free, from Motorola's private suite at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Free food and alcohol too :)

btw-the first time I saw Van Halen was before they ever came out with an album. They were the opening band for Ronnie Montrose at the Masonic Temple here in Detroit.

I can appreciate the technical ability of the DT musicians, but some of their music puts me to sleep.

You won't be disappointed if you go. They rock just as hard now as back in the day.

Just got back from Greensboro....another sold out, awesome show.

I downloaded Atomic Punk from the first show at a live music torrent site.

The quality is bad even for audience recordings, but the music is not bad at all. DLR sounds good. He missed some high notes. Not unexpected.

Yeah, Dave is actually trying to sing now. He doesn't have the full extent of that awesome scream from years ago to rely on, so he's singing most of the words, plus he still never stops moving.
Then again, nobody at 50+ years old can still hit all the notes they did when they were in their 20's, so like you said, it's not unexpected.

they are calling him Teen Wolf now, jesus. Personally many people can play...that's not what it's about. Wolfgang is a chubby little dude, probably the worst shape of the bunch. They bounced Michael Anthony who is truly talented as in composing and writing on top of playing to keep it all in the family.

I also personally think if they could they'd find a VH that could sing to replace Sammy/DLR forever...but the fans won't stand for that.

Wolfie was bred to be a replacement/heir to the band in my opinon.

I miss Mikey as an original member, but he didn't write or compose any Van Halen music, ever.
Eddie wrote the bass parts and told Mike what to play. What Mike brought to the table was those distinctive backing vocals.

Wolfgang's voice isn't quite as high as Mikey's, but it's close enough that you can't tell in an arena setting.

Yeah, he's a bit chubby, but not little. He's the tallest one on the stage. And I don't see what difference that makes, anyway.

If his presence keeps Eddie happy and sober, that's a good enough reason for me.

I doubt MA never had any input on any songs. The thing is too me having known a lot of talented musicians...it's not just talent; it's playing the part too. The kid just sticks out to me and turns VH into a cover band IMHO.

He is very talented though and I am sure in his 20's and 30's will really take off.

Eddie has been wanting to get rid of Mike since the Fair Warning album. Eddie writes all the music...guitar and bass. Mike just played it on the album. This has been documented through the years....Eddie would write the tunes, and Mike would show up and Eddie showed him how to play the songs.

The singers wrote the lyrics.

Heck, Mike didn't even play on the Van Halen 3 album, that was all Eddie, as were the 3 new Sammy songs on the last greatest hits album. Mike only did backing vocals on those tunes, and he did absolutely nothing on VH3.
It's debatable whether he played at all on Balance.

But yeah, his stage presence is missed. Wolf will get better as the tour goes on....and really, unless the bass player is either someone like Les Claypool or is the singer, who goes to see him?
VH fans are there for Dave and Eddie. That's why this show is selling out and will be the tour of the decade.

Regardless of whether you like Wolf in the band or not, the band IS delivering the best rock show anyone's seen in years, and that's all the really matter.

So, I was telling my wife the prices I saw for the shows and she said you guys better hurry because:

There's no way Eddy is going stay off drugs through a whole tour.

Valeri is going to drag Wolfgang back home.

And, there'll be a fight and they'll break up long before the end of the tour.

:evil::laugh::evil:

I think she's got it pegged.

I saw their last ever UK tour. It was with Hagar and although I enjoyed it, I have always been a DLR fan. Hagar is an impostor!
