NASHVILLE (Billboard) - Van Halen will announce a 50-date American reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth during a news conference in Hollywood next week, sources said.

The arena trek will begin in early October.

Roth, who split from the rock group in the mid-1980s in hopes of solo stardom, will reunite with co-founders Eddie Van Halen on guitar and brother Alex Van Halen on drums. Eddie's teenage son Wolfgang will sub for Michael Anthony on bass.

A proposed summer amphitheater tour by the group never got off the ground, with Eddie Van Halen entering a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March.

In the months since, the guitarist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.

Van Halen last toured in 2004, with Roth's replacement, vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

I give that tour a 20% chance of making it through 50 dates. I hope they can hold up until I get a chance to see them though. But that tour has catastrophe written all over it.

What's the over/under on how long this show lasts before it implodes?

I'll go with 7 dates.

EDIT: lmao, we're on the same page 49erinnc

Man you are being generous. I'd say 20% through 20 dates.

:D

Sounds like a train wreck just waiting to happen. I might, however, go if they actually manage to make it out here.

lame.. no MA = no van halen.

also, EVH will just get into drugs again after being clean if he has to spend 50 tour dates with DLR.

this tour will never happen.

I've seen him play guitar and he definitely has skills. Never seen him play bass but I'd assume he can get by well enough on that. Its not like Michael Anthony was an amazing bass player or anything (the bass lines of Van Halen songs are fairly simplistic), but he was a cool part of the band.

His vocal harmonies will be sorely missed.. that was a HUGE part of the sound.

Yep, that's true. Regardless, if the tour actually makes it my way, I'd definitely go see them play for old times sake.

Man, I loved this band in the 80s. I would have given anything for them to get back together....now I'm kinda meh about it 20 years later.

IMHO DLR's voice sounded like crap on Me Wise Magic. I'd hate to think how it sounds now. Still, it might be worth it just to hear stuff like Mean Streets again. And anything would be an improvement over Velvet Revolver's performance at the RnRHOF show.

I went to their 1984 tour (when I was 14). I loved it back then.
I wouldn't pay todays ticket prices to see them now, but I'd watch it on TV for free if someone airs it.
