You've got it -- I got it from the Gamestop digital delivery service about a month or so ago, installed all patches & it looks great @ 1920x1200. Runs much smoother on my GTX 260 at that res than it did on my old hardware back in the day, too. Lotsa fun, more so than most of the crap being released today.

The Steam version seems to have a lot of issues in Vista 64 with 4GB of more of RAM. I'm thinking of deleting the Steam version I just bought and installing it from my CDs.

I picked up Bloodlines last 9.99 sale and it was absolutely worth it. I used both the widescreen and latest unofficial patch with the Steam version without a problem. The 4GB issue is easily resolvable by just setting Windows to use 3.999 GB upon boot up instead of 4. I just switched it back to 4 after I finished the game.

Worth it for the haunted house alone!

And the crazy house as well!

I have 8GB of RAM. I don't want to disable half it in order to play a single game. :p

What does it matter? You're not going to see any difference at all. Just play the game, beat it, reset it.

god...

That haunted house was horrible. Probably one of the scariest areas in any of the games I've ever played.

Still a great game though, especially in term of atmosphere and a really interesting game world. I have the CD or DVD version though, and iirc, it was a bit buggy.

Awesome game. Bought it for $20.00 a year ago and it was worth every penny. Too bad it was Troika's swansong. :(

Pretty good game... just make sure you have a FAST hard drive. Otherwise its one continuous loading screen after another.

I've been hearing things about this game for awhile now, so I decided to pick it up on Sat. So far it's really great, definitely worth the $10. I used the "extra" unofficial patch and so far have no complaints.

Then you're missing out. The Unofficial Patch fixes the problems to the extent that they are now a moot point. ;)

No it doesn't. I just took a look at a forum linked to earlier in this very thread and there were several posters discussing how the game was unplayable for them.

That's funny. In over a dozen playthroughs I've never encountered any problems at all other than lousy framerates at 1680x1050, and that's only because my rig's ancient as hell. Are these people who are bitching about bugs using the Unofficial Patch?

Yes, they are.

Game was terrific, one of my favorites actually. I bought it for the same price off of steam a while back. If you're complaining about it being buggy, you're loss.

OK, whatever.

Like I said, I haven't experienced any problems in over a dozen playthroughs on my ancient computer. If you don't want to buy this great game, then by all means don't buy it.

I still say you're missing out. ;)

EDIT: Oh, Christ. After skimming through the threads I've come to to the realization that most of the problems you're mentioning are due to the fact that people are, of course, trying to run it on Vista. Given Vista's downright lousy compatibility layer it's no wonder they're having problems. And no wonder I haven't experienced any. I still use XP. :p

The Vista problems have more to do with Troika not being able to support the game properly. Had Activision let them do their jobs and polish the game, I have no doubt that it would run fine under Vista. The Source engine runs great on Vista, as do many other games. Bloodlines uses a pre-release version of the Source engine.

After some research, there are some tweaks to getting the game to work under Vista properly. There is a Vista thread in the Steam Bloodlines forums detailing the procedure, but I will summarize.

To get the game to launch in Vista without memory errors in Vista 64 and 4GB of RAM, there are some executables in the unofficial patch that patch the engine.dll file to allow it to run.

To get the game to run in Vista 64 without ultra blurry textures, there is a tweak that can be done to another DLL file involving hex editing. Another individual has posted a link to a pre-edited DLL that can be used.

Lastly, the unofficial patches also include a resolution tweaker to get the game running in wide screen resolutions.
