I have been having difficulty with Crashes in Steam Engine, (my opinion), and I am looking for anyone else who might have been experiencing the same.
My specs are at bottom, and I run WinXP Pro/SP2, ZoneAlarm Firewall/ NOD32 AV/ Webroot Spysweeper/ Spycatcher AV/ Have AOL installed (manual start only)/ and run Firefox as main browse, with IE installed also. ( Given as much info as I can )
Symptoms:
During gameplay in HL2,HLDM,CS:S (only) screen display "freezes" and audio continues as an "endless" half-second loop. Only turning off main power switch to tower gives me control.
(ctrl/alt/del or esc have no effect)
I only run an OC on 6600 @ 530/1050, however, it wil also crash at stock settings of 500/900.
No OC'ing anywhere else. I do run 2.7v to my RAM, up from the stock 2.5.
I ran memtest, for 4 hrs, no errors. I defragged my HD, no change.
No other games I use have had this issue:MOHAA,MOHPA,BF1942,HALO,SplinterCell,DOOM3, nada, just steam games, and all three at that.(HL2.HLDM,CS:S)
I went to the Steam forums, and found a link to verify the Steam files. No errors there.
I un-installed the game completely,(un-install,search for remaining valve,steam,css,hl,hl2 files) removed all of those. Searched registry,(removed all entries pertaining to valve/steam), and then ran CCleaner to remove any others. (lost all my saves)
Re-installed the game, and crashed within 15 minutes of gameplay.
Did I leave anything out? If more info is needed, please feel free 2 ask, I hate the fact I spent $55 on a game that won't cooperate.
I just need insight as to if it is only me, or is this a re-occurring factor of Steam Platform.
The Steam website, help and support area is very lacking in "real" help, just submit, and wait.
Thanks for ANY input. All comments will be addressed.

It may not be necessarily Steam, but the Source engine. When it crashes, are there no error msgs? have you tried updating the video drivers?
