Soooo, they're releasing essentially the same game with updated graphics in a few tweaks? That's what it sounds like to me.

Normally I'd rant about how it's just a cash grab, but since it's Valve, I say more power to them. It's a great franchise, and I trust THEM above any other developer to do it right. Plus, it should mean more cash in their pockets to put towards (*ahem*) other titles.

I wish more developers would just update graphics on some of these old titles and leave the game play alone. Game play is the most important thing followed by graphics.

I've never really been into Warcraft III or DotA, but if Valve is making this, they might actually manage to get me addicted. I'm actually excited to see what it's going to be like.

After war3 I think the community has become too fragmented with many clones. I should try the SC2 version and see how it holds up.

The sc2 version if pretty cool, but if you're serious about competitive gameplay, stick with HON or LoL.

No matchmaking or ratings means its like pubbing in war3 dota, u never know how good or bad your enemies/teammates are, and if you're actually good, playing games is not fun when you're just stomping noobs over and over or have retarded teammates.

I am really excited about this. DOTA and HON have been my favorite games for quite some time.

I tried LoL. It was alright...

Maybe I'll pick this one up if it looks good.

I think I will definitely purchase this, seeing as how it's a legit port complete with the original character names, items and recipes.

There might not be anything to buy. Nothing solid yet about pricing.

Amen!

It would easily coax thousands of dollars from my wallet if I could some a bunch of games from the past they were simply updated for modern GPU/CPUs leaving gameplay intact.

Now, Valve, cut a deal with Lucas Arts and start churning out upgrades to the TIE-Fighter/X-Wing Series. Please. PLEASE.

First of all, naming it DOTA 2 and then saying it's not a sequel but a porting of the old mod into a modern engine is very misleading. You can make a case that TF2 might be a similar situation, but I think there was more than enough changes and improvements to call it a true sequel and not just a port/update to a newer engine.

Second, why? We already have HoN which is the same exact thing. I suppose it will really depend on what enhancements this promised "community" brings. I have no doubt the Valve brand name will be more than enough to power the title to success.

I'll be watching, but can't say whether I'd buy it or not without more detailed info.

Man, why didn't Valve buy Demigod instead? A Valve revamped Demigod would wipe the floor in this genre.

I don't know about that. Demigod really didn't have very good game play, to me the controls felt like mush. With DOTA HON LOL you have to be very precise with your actions.

Controls to do what exactly? Demigod scene is extremely competitive.

Mushiness in Demigod is either because of lag (because all the connections are P2P, if someone slows down, every slows down) or the hideous pathfinding (click to go somewhere and hope you go there). In a low latency game, though, everything is very tight. The precision to pull of some of the multi-character combos or counters is really strict, but the highly competitive tier of Demigod (all 20-30 of them :( ) have it down to a science.

The DotA attitude is present in DG as well, which is a shame because the population is so low it will never get new people in. Graphically it is beautiful, though.

so....dota never really died....why do they say they are reviving it?

DOTA is pretty much dead, most moved on already. HoN and LoL already revived it, Valve isn't going to bring anything new to the table. Demigod was pretty awesome too, except the multiplayer was broken.

I disagree with you that HoN is the exact same thing :O

I love Dota, but HoN isn't my cup of tea. Slight nuances (like the extenuatingly small health bars) and the lack of most of my favorite dota heros was a HUGE turn off to me.
