Seriously what does customer service have to do with a game? I don't see where you need it. Install the game and play.
There are places where no customer service is needed, like sandwich shops or supermarkets.

So if buying a physical copy of a game means you dont get steam features, why even sell physical games that use steam period.

Sell physical copies with no attachment to steam then.

You know I must need to learn some reading skill sometime.

Because obviously I have never spent any money because I am complaining about this shit.

No way it is about morality because who ever cares about something not low but high like morality?

So you have never paid steam any money and you are bitching about their services?

This. Anyone who doesn't understand that this is good for legitimate Steam users need to read and read again. Or if that is too much for them, maybe they need to actually use Steam and get those random invites every other day. Maybe then they'll understand.

That what? More tribalism? Maybe you are not able to understand I already said I have bought games back earlier in this discussion. Learn to read.

This basically is proving that those who game on the PC are often not any different than those who game on cheap consoles.

A one-time, $5 fee to use 100% of Steam services and features, whereas a free account still allows 95% of features. The horror.

1. Double Fine Adventure
2. Crytek Studios
3. Planetary Annihilation

Are you able to see anything that is related among those subjects?

Other than them being PC games I don't. Let me know I'd like to learn.

All were hyped up as good for PC enthusiasts and they made huge benefits off that popularity but they all managed to just take advantage of those who gave any trust in them.

I agree this has been going on in the game industry since it began. Buying games is a risk, I look at it like movies there will be times you pay for something you don't like.

Then what would work?

Why not just give users to right to block any friend requests under the Steam Level or 2 or whatever the fuck you want?

"What would work?" The proposed solution from Valve will work.

Buying a game gets you into the Steam club. That's the way it really should be.

So you can not think of any other solution that could work?

Any other solution would have greater drawbacks. Creating more problems that this solution does not.

I like this. I have no problem at all with this.

I get the feeling that no matter how valve handled this, our resident representative of the entitled generation would be raging about it.

Seems to me that you just do not want to start thinking about what else could solve this problem.

You know I must feel entitled if I feel that I deserve the right to actually own what I buy? Maybe you have no fucking clue what I am actually even talking about here?

What a load of shit.

There are tens of millions of users on Steam and most of them are not from America. Many of whom are not going to have any way to spend money on the internet especially those like Brazilians who have a very different economic and societal environment. This forum is basically overall usually American males with more than a few European males also.

Let me guess you actually think Steam has good customer service?

Why are they on Steam if they can't afford to use Steam?
Why are they leaving reviews for games they don't own?
Why are they chatting with people about games they can't play?

How do you own what you own any less after this announcement than you did before?

How would that stop the Greenlight fraud or the people stupid enough to fall for phishing scams from all the friend requests they accept? Those people don't want to turn off friend requests.

You don't even understand the problems so it's no wonder you don't understand the solution. What made you think that the problem was "users are annoyed by friend requests from bogus accounts?" The problem is what those bogus accounts do NEXT to those unassuming users who aren't annoyed and what they do elsewhere on Steam (Greenlight fraud, for one).

Seems to me that you just do not want to start thinking about what else could solve this problem.
LOL! From the person who hasn't had even a correct thought on this... yet! YOU don't seem to even understand the problem in the first place! Now that we have explained, what excuse do you have? Do you make a living from Steam fraud? Are you trying to whip up some community backlash because Valve made it harder for you to bilk that community?

I also know people who spent a lot of hours on dota 2 and haven't (and likely won't) buy anything else.

I not saying this doesn't have upsides, but it does have downsides. Doesn't really affect me, I've had my account for more than 7 years and a good share of games, but it does impose a barrier of entry, especially when there are so many free to play games on steam.

The only thing it'll do for me is not having to block a couple of blokes everyday, a single press of a button. I can't help but think that there could be better ways of handling the situation.

The fact that retail keys don't affect the status is even worse. There are many people out there who still buy most stuff in physical format.

This has little to nothing to do with stopping scammers. It is all to do with trying to stop traders who provide games to and from different regions.

I have traded for games before and saved money. I couldn't have gotten those games otherwise, and with the changes valve have made in the last few months I wouldn't have been able to get them for the price I did.

They are determined now to stop this trading, no matter who it affects.
I understand they want to stop people from getting games for less than the retail price in their region, but since most of the time the person will either buy the game cheap or pirate it, then they are better off allowing the cheap sales to those few people.

It won't gain them a full price sale. The games I have saved money on I would never have bought full price. I would have probably torrented them to try them out, and then if I thought they were good enough I would have waited for a sale.

And these things affect people in general sometimes. Granted no often, but sometimes. And if you are an honest consumer, you should never be negatively affected by things your service provider is doing to stop people saving money.

5$ is a lot of money for developing countries which play games like Dota 2 the most. Understand cost of living.

So reduced spam and reduced foreign jabber? Valve has killed two birds with one stone! Praise gaben!

a lot of people do use steam mostly for dota, and either dont want to or cant spend money on it cuz they are in a third world kind of country and/or even students below 18 who dont even have a credit card, and now they cant send requests to their friends!

but i dont expect u to even try and understand this.

plz, carry on with your arrogant life

There are some variety in comments in this article so well worth reading.

Right cause I have never said the same shit about EA, Bethseda, SPDR, Paradox Interactive, Games Workshop, Sega, Microsoft, Nintendo, the Financial Industry, Hollywood, the Neoliberal business community, the Muscovites, the Israelis, and anll the other shit.

But Texians!
