Oh yeah, Source 2 as well

So this is stolen from Neogaf who stole it from Reddit who uncovered it.

Dota 2 subreddit toured Valve to get a sneak preview of The International 3

One of the pictures taken shows internal change log and lists Source 2 and Left 4 Dead 3

I never understood why people foam at the mouth about HL3's release.

You KNOW Valve WILL release it. Just give it time and forget about it.

HL1 was a landmark. HL2 was monumental at its time with true free physics. Both graphics and gameplay didn't improve that much today. Making HL3 now would be dumb and fall as just another FPS.

HL3 should be the true next-gen game. Something that requires another ground breaking element.

Just give it another 4-8 years. Without a doubt you know Valve will make it.

Well, I would just like to see the story line continued, not so much interested in some hypothetical groundbreaking element that may never come to pass.

Gabe Newell actually confirmed development of Source 2 a long time ago (about a year ago I think). He said it would be debuting with a brand new game. L4D3 it is then.

I bet L4D3 is F2P as well. They have had enormous success with it with TF2 and Dota 2 and L4D3 is a game that can work very well as F2P.

I will try it if it is F2P, but I thought L4D1 was boring and overrated. L4D2 seemed like a cash grab to me. Nothing worth dumping money into, but F2P on the other hand...

I didn't buy one, but picked up 2 when it was cheap. I thought the game was kind of cool, but the community was fucking horrible, I have had more pleasant experiences in MOBA's than I did in L4D2, that is saying a lot. I'm sure it is great when you have a group of friends to play with though, but that can be said about most games.

I am honestly don't care about a new half life anymore. I would be more excited to learn about a new hero in dota. Or maybe a new addition To elders scrolls.

to keep that cadence of interest going, you have to maintain relevance for your game. Otherwise we may just not care....

Agreed. I don't play much L4D2, but when I do, I'm fortunate to have a good group of IRL buddies to do it with. Much less frustrating than dealing with randoms.

Good point about L4D3 possibly being F2P. I hadn't considered that.

Still, excited for both these things anyway :awe:

Oh and i had a thought... maybe they're kind of testing the waters with their new engine, they dont wanna release half life 3 and have it be buggy or not work etc etc so they're testing it with L4D3 first to get used to it... then they release half life 3 all polished!

will any HL fans even care about it at that point? even now HL3 is just something I like to complain about. also the new generation of gamers will be like "HL what?"

Exactly. Which is exactly why his post, if made in seriousness, was so asinine it didn't merit a response.

Eight more years? I mean, really? HL2 Episode 2 came out in 2007. That's 6 YEARS ago. I mean, get real.
On top of that, Half Life is a very plot-driven, character-heavy FPS. This isn't Battlefield or CoD. The plot and characters matter. ESPECIALLY with the way Episode 2 was ended in the cliff hanger style it was.

That's not say it wouldn't be a great game 20 years from now and fans would still love it, but it clearly loses something as an IP, and as a marketable product when by that time there'll be a whole group of gamers who never even played HL2, and another group that doesn't even remember why they should care.

I agree. Gaming doesn't need new gimmicks, it needs better writing, character development, dialog, animation, and waaay better AI scripting.

All the elements are already there, they just need to be vastly improved.

I sure hope not. I hate pay to win format. I wouldn't mind a new L4D entry but I felt L4D2 was kind of a sidestep compared to L4D1.

L4D1 was an awesome game... as long as you had three other friends to play with, which I fortunately did.

L4D2 was okay, I am not a fan of the characters, music, or the special infected from the 2nd game, but the melee weapons were nice.

I liked playing the campaign(s) for L4D2 with my friends, but I could never stand more than and hour or two at a time. I didn't find it a particularly impressive game. Though the one level that I recall vividly was crossing some cornfield in pouring rain, that was pretty intense.

I'm definitely looking forward to HL3 even after all this time but I don't see the need for any new tech for it. I just want to continue the story; at this point I'd probably need to play at least Ep2 again to brush up however.

massive fan of L4d and L4d2, A good team and the game is incredible on the harder levels. I think the reason so many find it blah is its not like most "team" games.. it truly sucks with people who don't understand TEAM.. but you play with people who do understand it.. its fun. And all the mods, unlimited maps, many game types, and a good old VS game is .... friggin unreal.. but its HARD to get team players.. hence COD/ BF etc.. are the choice.. you can have 6 snipers who dont give a hoot about each other and still win (sometimes).. teamwork helps, but its not required. I must admit its getting a bit long in the tooth.. nobody wants to PLAY it.. since everybody knows you can rush the game on the hardest setting and win it easy, everybody just rushs levels.. to me thats like reading the last page of the boo, if the end is the only thing that count, why even play..part of the game is fighitng a hoard, with a tank, in the pouring rain.. and making it.. not finishing a level in 3 minutes with all the specials racing to catch ya.

one thing i will concede.. a single asshat can ruin a LFD game...where its just annoying in most others.. Great to hear Lfd3 is coming.. I hope its not standard Valve time.. I cant wait 3-4 more years.. Oct would be a good time.. surprise announcement!.. i wish..
