i mean, i could buy the pack again to get the newer stuff, but i'd be buying the same games twice. buying 1 by 1 seems espensive too.

has there ever been an upgrade half life pack deal?

I don't Steam ever has upgrade deals, just new full bundles.

They usually don't let you gift the duplicate games either, though they did once with HL 2.

Well, the Valve complete back is cheap at the moment (well, not that cheap in the US), but welcome to the wonderful world of Steam. If you have a game, and buy a pack with the game in it again, you now have one copy of the game.
Just another reason to support awesome DRM.

At $5-10 for older games during Steam sales I can't complain.

I'd re-buy some games just to never have to deal with CDs and DVDs again.

Also, despite the Steam DRM you can still use mods for many games like Fallout 3 & New Vegas.

oh don't get me wrong. steams own DRM i don't mind at all.

it's when you throw crap like ubisofts on top of it (assassins creed 2) or (in batman AA) where you have to have a windows live login as well. that's annoying.

valves own games tend to be top notch and i agree - no CDs and the like is nice. just wish i could gift/sell games i've finished to someone else like i can with physical media.

They used to allow you to gift extra copies. I had an extra HL2 that I gave to a friend. I think I bought the Orange Box when I already had HL2. Does that not work anymore?

raasco linked to a support article saying it would be allowed in that instance. not though, if you just finished a game and want to sell it.

that's the main problem i have with downloading games. it's essentially more expensive

I've never sold a game, so this isn't an issue for me. I can see how it would make some people upset, although the modern usage of CD keys essentially does the same thing.

yea, afaik, i own the half life pack from a few years ago so if i bought the orange box now, i'd essentially own 2 copies of some games. those dupes i'd be able to gift to someone else.
