Update:
The NO MERCY campaign from L4D1 is also being ported over to L4D2 as fan favorite campaign.

The DLC, entitled The Sacrifice, will work with both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. It will be the exact same DLC package, but it will be compatible with either game.

The DLC will be a continuation of The Passing, which was released earlier this year and had the heroes of Left 4 Dead 2 running into the heroes from Left 4 Dead. At the end of the The Passing, one of the members of the original Left 4 Dead group died, and The Sacrifice, shows the story through those original 4 character's eyes.

The Sacrifice, as the name suggests, will allow the players to select which character dies, which is different from in The Passing, when Valve chose the person who died for you.

The expansion is due out in October and will expand on the story by showing how the original survivors met up with the Left 4 Dead 2 characters, and will be accompanied by a digital comic that arrives next month. The comic will get everyone caught up on what's happened in the Left 4 Dead storyline so far and will be available as free DLC on PCs and Macs while it will be paid DLC on the Xbox 360 (nothing free here, folks).

I never understood the favoritism over the No Mercy campaign. I try to play it the least I can. But good thing Valve is still working on L4D.

I miss the atmosphere of some of the old L4D campaigns. They felt much darker than creepier than L4D2 (aside from Hard Rain, which I love). I'm really glad they're bringing back No Mercy.

Great that it'll be free for PC. But the No Mercy campaign has already been ported perfectly well to L4D2 by more than one modder, no?

It's what I missed in L4D2. It would seem to be the main reason why I lost interest in it. I think I've only played about 2 hours of it. It's rather sad.

The weapons, objectives, and special AND regular infected are far better in L4D2. Being able to grab a bile jar off of a "regular" infected or killing one and having them drop a health pack and molotov is great. I don't think I could ever go back to just the pump shotgun / SMG, or M16 / Hunting Rifle / Auto Shotty. Even just single / dual pistols with no melee weapons or magnum seems too restrictive.

IMO, the entire game was worth it just to play through Hard Rain. It has by far the best atmosphere of all the campaigns from either game. Versus in L4D2 is much more diverse and entertaining as well.

No Mercy was the most popular campaign in L4D, so that makes sense. L4D2 has some great one time through campaigns, but very few people play any campaign other than the shopping mall, carnival and one that ends on the bridge.

Wouldn't mind a few more weapons added to the campaign to change things up. Some mod is out there with a SIG/HK-something.

I thought the special infected were much better in L4D1. The special infected in 2 are too easy to kill. They pussified the tank in 2.

I agree, this is why i like VS mode better in l4d1, so if i play VS ill play l4d or any other mode then l4d2.

That M60 only with infintate ammo mutation was fucking awesome BTW

The standard pistol(s) in L4D1 are far more effective than in L4D2, although the deagle and melee weapons certainly change the rules.

Also the auto shotty in L4D1 is godly, and rapes anything in L4D2. That being said it was way too OP and is good they nerfed the shotguns in general for L4D2.

Only the SMGs and Rifles are hands down better in L4D2.

This is what I was thinking. I have played all the original campaigns from LD4 on L4D2... albeit they had slight changes... but they were damn good ports.

I like the idea that the survivors will have to choose/volunteer who to sacrifice in the upcoming DLC The Sacrifice, but in the end every time you play The Passing, its Bill who's gone. That just seems to make it official.

Rest in Peace Bill.
