Valve adding battle royale mode to CSGO? Blizzard creating one too? HiRez definitely is.

I barely understand what the dude is using for evidence, but I could see Valve making a serious contender in the genre so I hope it is true.
Here's the video:

Well now it seems like the rumor mill now suspects that Blizzard from this job posting is also working on one . Although some others say it is for a kart racer. Once again, take it from it what you will.

Doubt this deserves its own thread (probably doesn't even deserve this post), but here's a free battle royale game just in time for the holidays to tide you over while waiting to see if all these rumors will come to anything:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/763410/Long_Live_Santa/
The Tale...
Santa is dead. Now the remaining bearded men of the Norwegian wilderness must fight to the death. Will you be the next Santa, or die in the snow? Punch, slice, outwit your way to a fulfilling new seasonal job.
Gameplay
With fast and furious gameplay, finding out if you will wear the tattered cloak of Santa Claus has never been more intense. Weapons drop from the sky as you compete against strangers on the internet to be the last one standing.

Create or join a server to instantly start a match.
Play Last Santa Standing, battle-royale-style last-man-standing combat where weapons are scarce but powerful.
Once the round starts, all bets are off. Find your weapons, best your Santa foes, and perhaps you will be the Winner, Winner, Christmas Dinner!

Key Features

Online Multiplayer Combat with up to 20 players per battle.
Gift Boxes drop from the sky containing weapons!
Festive Weapons! Shoot your fellow Santa contenders with a Candy Crossbow, slice them with your Santa Sword, or just punch them with your bare-knuckle fists!
Killer Reindeer! Mount this steed and run your enemies down!
Last Santa Standing: seek out weapons, attack enemies, or cower in the corner.

Like PubG? If so, not sure Source can handle it without a major overhaul. CS might work with that though, has all the basics of it.

I haven't played PUBG, but I'm waiting for the Christmas sale to see if price drops any more, if so it will be rectified.

But from what I've seen of the game in videos, PUBG seems like the perfect game world to add a larger scale Battlefield type game to. You know, something like Planetside but Battlefield style....except in PUBG game world. Hopefully it's on sale so I can see if that impression is justified. If so it's a shame to have such a game world limited to battle royale.

PUBG looks to me like a great idea ruined by a really bad idea. 3rd person camera, really? in a shooter? scratch that, i meant "in a tactical shooter".
the whole premise is broken.

There is FPS mode too.

unless that fps mode forces OTHER people in FPS, then it's irrelevant.

Not exactly. It's actually much better. Checkout some gameplay....

Watched that video, and a few others too. I really enjoy the concept of PUBG, as well as DayZ also. The thing that kept me from really getting into it was the controls and extremely clunky UI. Trying to use resources you gathered, or even just couching/going prone took way too many inputs. have you played the game a lot? Im wondering if the UI/control scheme is similar to how it is in DayZ, because thats somthing thats hard for me to determine from gameplay videos. Everyone that posts videos about this game that ive seen are all used to the UI/mechanics of the game, and they make it look much more fluid than what ive experienced in the past with similar games.

I played Dayz, but not PubG. PubG is Unreal4, so being a different engine probably doesn't have the issues Arma has. Although I suppose the controls might be similar.

PUBG is so toned down from ARMA that none of those clunkiness issues really remain. I will say I always found movement a bit too clunky, but I also haven't played 1.0 yet (or anything in last 2 months) and I understand that aspect has improved massively. PUBG is closer to H1Z1 KOTK, but actually add some content and things generally work the way they should.

I don't really understand why PUBG gets compared to DAYZ. It's a round based king of the hill shooter vs a slow pace survival scavenging game. The only thing they have in common is a large map.

When I first watched a PubG video it reminded me of Arma, mainly because of the Look mechanic. That it appears to have a Russian setting also adds to that perception.

PUBG and DayZ look nearly identical, with a very similar setting. If theres ever a sale where the game costs under $8 I think id jump on it and grab it, otherwise ill have to do more research and see if its somthing I really want.

If you want to try the genre out there are some free and cheap options available:

Fortnite is Epic's take on the genre. The battle royale mode is free to play, but I believe it only has a third person mode. I think it also has some kind of mechanics where you can build walls and stuff which PUBG doesn't have.

H1Z1, the original (?) standalone battle royale game, from Sony (or whatever company Sony sold their MMO division to) is $5 or so. It has been completely overshadowed by PUBG, but the Steam stats show that it isn't dead.

Last Man Standing on Steam is free to play, but I only know that it exists.

Even if these games aren't as good I suspect that if you find the basic gameplay dull you're not going to to be impressed with PUBG either.

I forgot about this one. I'm not sure if it is a true battle royale game (and it costs a pretty penny to get into early access), but Escape from Tarkov has some buzz behind it.

I guess everyone wants to join the Battle Royale party!!!! HiRez has announced a battle royale mode for their TF2/Overwatch hero shooter Paladins. Called, coincidentally enough, Paladins: Battlegrounds.
