hey i'm building a computer for my aunt. she doesnt play games or anything like that
but i'm putting an athlon xp 1900 nonetheless, and trying to find a motherboard in the 60-100 price range

anyone know of one that just seems to be better than the rest?
i'm putting a geforce4 mx400 or 440 in it too ... and crucial 256mb ddr ram

for a cheap run of the mill board ecs k7s5a is a good one
it accepts both sd and ddr ram so its up to you whichever you put in it

for an option, maybe look into the nforce2 boards. they come wtih onboard video equivalent to gf4mx. a mobo+vidcard will probably cost you almost the same as one nforce2 mobo maybe, so thats an optoin when they are available

Why not just buy her an all-in-one board like PCchips/Amptron M810LMR. It supports up to XP2100+ and 1gig of SDR. The video is great for integrated and the sound is fine. It comes with a 56k modem and a built in NIC.

These boards are cheap, but make great systems like what your Aunt would use. I find these boards very stable and aren't fussy about their PSU like the ECS mentioned.
