Value of Check Point certification?

I'm a freelance CCNP certified network admin with 10 years of experience. I get more and more calls for opportunities in the security domain. I have experience with firewalls (primarly Fortigate) and I'm thinking of specializing more in security rather then the general network guy that I am now. I'm looking at certification also and seeing that check point is one of the market leaders, I'm thinking going that route.

good move or bad move?

Should be a pretty solid move IMO.

I really don't like the Fortigates personally. I've found several bugs that have had to be reported back to Fortinet. Although, I do use one of their small SOHO type units for my home connection.

Can't hurt, I'd look at it from a market demand perspective though - are you running into opportunities with Checkpoint that would offset the cash/time investment? Would you be better off looking at going down a Cisco CCSP path to compliment your existing Cisco CCNP cert?

If you don't already I'd also look at some of the more business driven governance and compliance standards like PCI, SoX, HIPAA, etc.. and get some resume fodder on projects or coursework that touch these. When I'm shopping firms to provide project or ongoing IT services I always peck around their network and storage disciplines for expertise in these areas.
