VAIO PCG-SR5K - Won't start-up......

I was hoping anybody technically savvy in this area might be able to diagnose the following problem with this ultraportable Sony Vaio PCG-SR5K. The battery does not retain power and at start up "assistant check processes" goes on then reboots.

Any ideas?

I think i have the same problem, with my sony vaio pcg-fx300. The power seems to come on but the screen will only turn on sometimes, but, then the screen will shut off it seems like. Any ideas?

Bad PRAM battery?
Those things caused me no end of problems in the assorted macintoshes I've worked with; I can't speak for Sony laptops other than that I dislike them. It might be a bad battery, too-some laptops wo'nt start up without one plugged in.
