Vaio Laptop not running at full speed?

Hello, I own a Pentium III 900 mHz Vaio, model PCG-FX340, which runs window xp. when i got the computre it said it ran at 535 mhz in windows system under control panel. i changed the bios to cpu speed @ maximum, and it now says 688 mhz..i waswondering how i could get it to say 900 mhz. i am selling this laptop and i dont want the buyer to thinki am ripping him off.

Is the laptop plugged in to the mains power and you have SpeedStep turned off?

how do i turnspeed step off? and by main power do u mean is it pluggedinto wall?

did you reinstall the windows or is it factory install ? they have this utility that lets you adjust everything... see if you have that..

Mains power means plugged into the wall.

The SpeedStep control utility (if you haven't done anything to it) is a green checkered flag icon in the system tray. Double click on that to go into the SpeedStep properties. You can disable CPU throttling from there.
