My brother somehow busted his rig.

He has an Athlon 650mhz system with an ASUS K7M
It had 128megs of ram, so he decided to upgrade to more and he bought 512 megs more of pc133 ram.
Today, he took out the old ram, and installed the new ram. It worked fine. Then he decided to try both the old and new ram together... it did not work. So, he took out the old ram and left in just the new ram. Now whenever he tries to boot, it takes him to safe mode. When it tries to load safe mode, it black screens and gets stuck there.

His OS is Winxp

Try flashing the BIOS (with the BIOS flash jumper on the mobo) with just the old ram install'd. If that dosent work i'd say format the HD and try re-installing the OS.

If he has to format, how would we manage that. He has no boot disc, and he can't boot into safe mode or regular mode. How does one reformat XP without having a boot disc or being able to boot into safemode/regular os?

just boot off the xp cd-rom. you can format and re-install right from there
