Vacuum thingies

I was wondering if anyone has tried or has one of those vacuum sealer thingies. I know there is one sold on infomercials (and at Sam's Club), there is a Kenmore one (from Sears), and I think I saw a Black and Decker one. The reason I ask is that since I live alone, I don't really bother to cook much, because it would be a waste of time to make a small amount of something. If I make a lot, it goes to waste. I was wondering if those things work so that I could make a lot of say, chili or spaghetti sauce, vacuum seal it, then toss it in the freezer for later use.

Right now, I'm kinda thinking they at least partially work, but I'd like to hear from someone who has one or has used one.

We got one about a zillion years ago when they first got big, and we've used it about 6 times in about 6 years. I find no real good use for them, as i eat all the food that gets made. Otherwise, ziplock bags work for me.

I have a Kenmore Seal n Save. Thing is awesome for marinating meat, storing freezable and such.

I love it. Definitely worth the hundred bux I spent for the kit.

I'd kind of like to have one, too. I saw a commercial for the Sears one just the other day. I probably wouldn't use the thing, though. I imagine the "new" would wear off pretty soon. I'd rather buy a new computer part for that kind of money. heh heh

I wanted one of these until I saw the price for a reasonable unit. $169 for a nice model with some empty "vacuum sealer" bags from CostCo B&M.
