We have a Fantom . Works pretty well on the carpet. The wand and attachments leave something to be desired. Not much sucking power when you use the wand and attachments.

That's all the experience I have. :)

edit- DAMN! I wish I paid that for the Fantom.... Wife bought it off the Info-mercial for $250 or something like that... :(

Just to re-state, I wouldn't recommend it if you are going to use the wand and attachments a lot.

I saw this, I'm not 100% sure this is the same vacuum though? It looks the same, but I didn't see a model number on Costco.com.

I guess I'm going to head over to Costco B&M in a bit, maybe I can find out more there. I know sometimes they even have them so you can test them!

Anyway, thanks for the replies and keep 'em coming!

Didn't see this on the page.

I'm sure you're right about the model bump.

Thanks!

I personally opted for the model with the Bag as I read many times that Bagless was not worth the premium they were charging. But if you can get the bagless for that price then by all means do it, only bad thing is those filters are rather pricey.

Personally my mother has an Electrolux which cost her upwards of $900 and I think my Hoover does as good of a job with picking up the dust, and has more features to boot..but you can tell the difference in quality between the Electrolux and the hoover...the hoover I will throw away when it is broken and buy a new one, her vaccum was made to last.

With that said, the Hoover is probabily the best vaccum out there for the money.

bozack, thanks for the info.

I'll take a look at the windtunnel bag system as well, I think it's about $30 cheaper at Costco...

The Eureka 4870 smart vac is rated excellent by Consumer Reports. They say it cleans as well as a Kirby.

We got ours at Target for $150

I have a Samsung Quiet Storm canister vac that is just great Review

Canisters are great if you have a lot of bare floors, stairs, and furniture to get under. They also are very easy to unclog because everything comes apart.

FWIW- Now that I've had a bagless, I won't go back. to a bag. :)

You do have to empty the bagless more often, tho.

Shagger, thanks for the tip. I looked up this model at consumerreports.org and it's actually rated better than the hoover. Plus, it's $149 at Costco, is quieter, and has a better repair history than hoover!

I'm going to try to "test drive" the eureka this afternoon!

Thanks!

Sharp. Epinions people like them well enough, and I use one myself. Great performance and quality for the price, if you don't pay too much (they're available mostly in vacuum stores ever since Sears and Circuit City stopped carrying them.) If a Vac store won't knock a few bucks off, order it online. Buy a lot of bags and a couple belts, since they're not available everywhere.

I got a Eureka from K-Mart. Not sure of the model number, but it's bagless, and it's bright yellow with gray highlights.

Hzl_eyed_grl can back me up here - I went a year and a half in my apartment without a vacuum cleaner, and after being "Eurekad" my carpet looks basically brand new. ;)

Definitely check out your local CostCo B&M, I've seen some great deals on Eureka and Hoover vacuum cleaners.
