Vacuum cleaner advice needed

RossMAN

Grand Nagus
Looking for an upright, reliable, bag or bagless doesn't matter around $99 - $169

So my two questions are:
1) What brands and models would you personally recommend based on experience?
2) Which B&M stores would you check out? We have Target, Sears and CostCo on our list so far.

Dear Rossy,

I'm a SUCKER for giving advice. 😛

Hoovers last for a very long time. We had our first one for 10 years and it died last year. Our new one is a Eureka, I think, and I'm not too fond of it, but it is bagless.

I would buy a hoover and with a bag. We had a bag, then a bagless, now back to a bag. Its nice not purchasing bags but its not worth the mess and they do not clean as well as a bag vacumm. Look in consumer reports for vacumms also. Hoover was the least common returned vacumm at the walmart I worked at.

Sears has good vac's. Sometimes they have floor models or returns that are marked down considerably. You may want to check your local store. They also carry some other name brands such as Hoover. I would stay away from Eureka.

i got a hoover bagless from costco recently for only 100 bucks. works sooo much better than that dirt devil POS i had that wouldn't suck up a THING.

Thanks. Would you mind taking a pic of your vacuum cleaner so I can see it?

I'll prob skip Target and just go to Sears then CostCo.

A Grand Nagus would never buy a vacuum cleaner from Target! Shame on you for even considering them!

Another vote for Hoover. Our first one from the '70s was still going strong before my parents decided to ditch it. We're on our second that's almost 10 years old now - works, well, like a vacuum.

BTW, the bag icon suits you perfect. You're too ugly to walk around without one on.

I got a GE Bagless Upright 12 amp this past xmas. I really like it, it picks up a lot more than my old Dirt Devil Upright Deluxe 7 amp did. A friend liked it enough to buy one of his own. My only complaint is that I find I have to empty the 'dust cup' after every vacuuming, but that's because I have a dog and cat indoors. And it's not that big of a deal to dump it anyhow.

i'd take a pic in a sec, my bf thinks i'm weird for taking pics of my vacuum. but from the hoover site:

Hoover Fold Away Bagless Upright Widepath

mine's bright yellow.

Thanks for the URL that's sufficient, no need to take pics of your vacuum (although I appreciate it).

How is your Canon S400 doing?

You could always get a Rainbow but those things cost 10x because of their direct marketing scheme.
Great vacuum but hardly worth a grand.

In my limited experience Hoovers last a little longer than Eurekas or Royals.

That being said there is a metal Royal you can get from vacuum shops that'll last forever. I'just never wanted to spend the $300 plus for it.

Rainbows are nice. i have one from the 80s and my mom wont let me use it. she doesn't want me to break it. that's why i bought the vaccum in my above post.

I picked up a dirt devil bagless vision for $90 at walmart was an open box or something about 6 months ago. Its an awesome vac imo. I looked around quite a bit before I bought one and decided on this the only complaints I ever heard about it was that it was loud. hasn't let me down yet and we have 2 dogs here that like to shed. filter cleans up with a few taps against that can and has hepa to help keep the dust to a minimum

Eureka Whirlwind, Around $89

HEPA
Bagless
Fantastic suction, I have to clean after every use it picks up so much cat hair and dirt.
Used for almost a year regulary and it still works great. Has a washable interior filter as well.
