Vacation to Dominican Republic

I want to take my wife on a nice vacation. We can get into a Hilton hotel in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic for $250/week through our timeshare. However, we must also pay the all inclusive fee, which is $70 per day per person. It includes all the food and alcoholic beverages you can handle, plus a lot of activities at the resort. So, essentially, it is like spending $1250/week. Does anyone think this is unreasonable? Any ideas of where to go that would be better?

slip the guy a hundred bucks when you check in and have him give you and wife a wristband.

I've done it before.

Best if you can catch one of the counter guys away from the counter and complete the actual transaction elsewhere.

nice! i went there 2 yrs ago Hilton is good but very expensive as you already know, try the Coral they are also good but not as good as Hilton there beach is worse if i remember

That is at the Coral Hilton. Is it better than Hawaii?

23 bucks per meal? that's really expensive in a long run. they better include expensive cognacs.

that was my thought. Unless you are a total drunkard I am not sure how you are going to make up for $70 a day per person on that.

All the Alcohol you can handle. Plus it is a full resort, so you can use their non-motorized water toys, such as kayaks, and use the waterpark and stuff.

Think of it this way: Is $1250 a week really expensive to spend at a 4 star resort per week including food and drink? I have never been to the Carribean, so I'm not too sure.

Whoops! totally screwed up my statement that one you are heading to is cheaper than the one i thought you were in called Iberostar, i went to the one called Dominicus however it will turn out more expensive than the Coral

The other thing is that my timeshare company said it was $70/day, while the dominican at the resort told me $35/day. Should I trust the guy at the resort over the timeshare? The timeshare states I do not pay them the money. I need to pay the hotel the money.

You are best off talking to the front desk at the hotel directly to get the all inclusive price. Quite often this type of information is incorrect when coming from other sources.

Based on averages, you'll be paying at least $5.00 a drink at the resort, if not more, and if you have half a dozen drinks or so in the course of a day and night, you've already covered half of that $70.00. Also, keep in mind that all inclusive includes all taxes and tips. $70.00 is kind of steep but it will vary from hotel to hotel. Some you'll find as low as $30.00 while others will be close to $100.00.

Call the hotel, ask for the front desk, and then explain to whoever answers that you're staying on a timeshare, give them the dates, and ask what the charge will be for the all inclusive plan, per person, per night.

Are you stupid? 1250 a week at a 4 star resort?

Most 4 star resorts are just 200-300 or so for the room per night.

Stupid for going? 1400-2100 per week for room > 1250 per week for room + drinks + meals + water toy, etc. It sounds like I would be stupid if I didn't go.
