Vacation Recommendation

I live in East TN. Beach Trip is too much money this year, yet we need something to do that can be fun for the kids part of the time and also relaxing for me and the wife. Any good suggestions. The web searches are overwhelming. Just thought I would check to see if any South Easterners or Mid Atlantic people would know of maybe a nice quiet lake with cabins with some things to do that are not real far away.

Ever see "The Great Outdoors"?

Rent a cabin somewhere near a lake.

Campground near a good lake would be nice. If you look around, you may be lucky and be able to buy an older, but good condition pop-up camper for a couple hundred dollars.. Then you're all set for other weekend getaways.

Ski resorts in the off season can be fun.

If you go to vegas and win a lot, then the vacation as a whole is free.
