I took a two week vacation to Japan with a friend from college recently, and had an absolute blast. We were able to stay in Tokyo with his parents, so that cut down our costs immensely. Highlights of the trip included various places in Tokyo, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Suzuka, temples and shrines in Kyoto, hot springs and hiking in Hakone, and taking the shinkansen (bullet train) all over the place.

Of course, I made sure that my D70s got a good workout while I was there. 🙂

I only had the 18-70mm Nikon kit lens, and I found it to be somewhat limiting on the cloudier days and for any night shots. I had tried to locate a fast prime before the trip, but I wasn't able to get one in time. Still, I'm pretty happy with the way most of the shots came out. I ended up shooting 714 frames, but pared them down to 234 shots for my gallery.

Please feel free to take a look and let me know what you think. Comments are always appreciated!

It was pretty cloudy for the first five days or so that we were in Tokyo. If you get to the Kyoto shots later in the gallery, you'll notice it's much nicer out. 🙂

nice pics. I was over in Japan for two weeks as well over the summer and really enjoyed it. The pictures were dark in the daytime because of the range from the difference in lighting maybe? Man you really lucked out going to the F1, me and my bro would have loved to go when we visited japan. Looks like you've seen alot more of the "cooler" stuff than we did. Btw, did you get to see the 200 dollar honeydews/watermelons at the fruit shops in Ginza?

Been to Japan twice in the past 18 months with the kids and I wanna go back for some real ramen(and I am not writing about the ten cent package stuff). I still want to take my family to see the Mazda museum in Hiroshima and the Ramen museum located at Shin-Yokohoma.

By the way, great shots!
