i have ordered a v7800 firepro card. i have seen that this is the equivelant of a 5850 radeon card.
the core runs
v7800 725hz
5850 725hz
the memory
v7800 1000hz
5850 1200hz
the v7800 has 2gb memory when the 5850 ships with 1gb if i am not mistaken.
so the question is at games v7800 will perfom similar to 5850 or how much worse???

The drivers won't be optimized for gaming. It might be as good in some cases, but in those where there are heavy game optimizations, the 5850 would be well ahead. The other side of the coin is the 7800 will easily outperform a 5970 in most pro applications.

At this site they compared the v5800 but have also the radeon 5770 which is the counterpart.
At unique heaven 2.0 bencmark
v5800 29.16 radeon 34.94 thats 19,8% for radeon
At unigine tropics v1.2
v5800 39.53 radeon 46.91 thats 18,6% for radeon
the diference in those cards are the frequense of the memory
1000hz for v5800 and 1200hz for radeon thats 20% for radeon
so we see that a 20% raise in memory frequense more or less means
20% improvement over game perfomance??
if that is true then the v7800 will be 20% slower than 5850? in game applications?

I think that the memory speed is 20% higher on the Radeons and them being 20% faster is just simply coincidence. Memory speed gains usually only provide a fraction of an increase. My guess is that 15% of that is drivers.

Agreed. The reason for running the memory slower is it's likely where they could save the most power with the smallest loss in performance.

What exactly are you going to be using this 7800 for? If it's just gaming and benchmarking 3D Mark, it's not the proper card to use. If you are going to run CAD and modeling/animation aps, then it's the right card for the job.

i will use it for cad and some 3d modeling
but because i also like games i was wondering what the games capapilities will be of this card. maybe it is a good card for tha cad but really loose for games then i will need a diferent pc for gaming. or an open case to swap card.
(in the near future i will do a large amount also of scaning and resize recolor the images )

It should be great. It's just not going to game as well as the 5850 does. Being single slot, it's not going to O/C as well, or be as quiet overall. The difference in pro aps will be markedly better, though.

i remember the old days when there were 2 sides the profesional cards and the gaming cards
as matrox millenium the oxygen series from number nine that were excellent at cad programs extremely high refresh rates but at 3d gaming suck is a good comment to say. but from that era a lot have changes. and since this card are not only made by the same company but they use the exact processors. maybe you can say defect firepro are also turned into radeon. (as we see with phenom x3 cpus which is x4 either with one core damaged or simple deactivated). so my question maybe sound a little odd at first but it is a valid one. there are no test out there for gaming perfomance for a good reason they are too expensive but with v4800 at 130 euro is not that expensive to have it tested in all that forums. so the driver issue. the same company issues the drives so since they are the same procesor what prevents amd from adding some characteristic of optimazation in games to the firepro series? after all they have the code they have written it. well in the end of month i will have the card and then i will inform you all. but i thought 3d vantage shows some abilities of the card in gaming or i am mistaken?? it is another syntetic benchmark that reveal nothing to real world application like games?
