V5 users: questions and advice maybe

Hi..I have an Asus A7V133 with bios 1.004 and V5 5500 pci card....with this bios I seem to have an problem if the via chipset under Advanced features is set to bios default or performance cause hardware accel. to crash...if I set to compatable no problem....

Anyone notice this??

what performance hit occurs when you are set to bios default or compatable.

256mg mosel ram...optimal ram settings with ram set at cas222 pc143
30gb Maxtor HDD on promise controller
tosh 48x cdrom on ide 1
plex121032 on ide 2
pci slot 1...realtek NIC
pci slot 3 SB live
pci slot 4 V5 5500....I may move it to pci slot 5 which shares with the uselesss AMR slot(although the IRQ of slot 4 & 5 shares with usb controller)

can not run Hardwareaccel 3D.... with this setup

I'd try running your overcloked CPU at stock speed first to see if the problem disappears.

I have done that....with all memory setting at lowest , default and highest...this occurred after clean installs with with WinMe and W98se...

I can now also o/c higher...seem to be more stable...

I have not downgraded bios back to orginial or 1.002A to see if problem is a bios problem ....

Believe I have done everything you could think of over last several days...I also found my V5 does not like when I install the additional usb ports included with thw Asus A7V133

BFG 10K...I know you had a V5 do you still have one...could you do me a favor and check the performance change with the compatability setting vs performance...

I may go back to older drivers and see if this helps too.

first off get that v5 in the first pci slot and put the nic in 4 or 5. soundcard is fine in 3. now see how things run.

Good advice but when I used the V5 in slot above the nic card(my former 3com...I have now a realtek)...the system would lock or crash...It seemed the placing the NIC card after the V5 in the pci slots caused me no end to headache....

Anyway...I put my G400 from other computer in now ...I can run games and my voodoolights screensaver shows a frame rate of double that with the V5 which of course can not be....

I have the G400 AGP
pci slot1 NIC
pci slot 3 soundcard

everything seems happy right now

I tried placing the V5 in pci slot 1, sb live slot 3 and nic slot 4....no different ...
I do a clean driver install ..clean out windows of files...registry clean of all reference to glide, 3dfx and voodoo....

I give up ...the only way this seem to work was once....ran nolf for 45min with sb live in slot 1, nic in slot2 and V5 in slot 4(I think)...but I heard I should leave slot 2 open for the promise controller..man I wish I never screwed around with this orginial setup..

Now I can not use my V5 and I am real disappointed I loved this card...so I may get a radeon or wait for Geforce 3 to push other card prices down more
