I'm posting this for my friend who's got a v5 5500...
We just installed quake3 arena on his system and it's got texture problems galore... screen flickering, missing textures, etc...
also noticed that it's not as fast as it should be... framrate was erratic from 20fps-70fps at 1024 with the avg being around 35...he has an athlon 800 btw... we thought it were some custom model files so did a clean install but same problem... i noticed he's got dx8 installed...would that affect the game in anyway since q3 uses opengl?

Make sure triplebuffering is turned off in the driver control panel.
Try setting "com_hunkmegs" to a larger number (ie 64 or 80).
Make sure you have the latest 1.00.04 drivers instead of the drivers from the CD.

sell the voodoo5. now before you label me as an nvidiot hear me out. if all you want to do is play old games and relatively current games then keep the voodoo. but if your interested in the future buy a geforce or radeon. both are somewhat future proof and will last longer than the v5, especially now that 3dfx is dead. have you checked out giants lately, huge diff. between geforce and v5 due to the lack of dot 3 on the v5.
