I use V-syn on with my LCD,remember LCDs don`t refresh like CRTs but you normal set it to 60Hz.
Game settings should be run in native res (1280x1024)where possible to give the best possible image quality, you can use a lower res but the quality won`t be quite as good, also the game resolution really depends on your video card as well, since runnig at 1280x1024 for games will require a good video card like 9700 etc.

The refresh rate on my lcd is like 70 or 75hz would that be bad?

It was originialy at 60hz but i thought higher was better so i put it up to the highest it was showing in its native resolution. Which was like 70hz.

My LCD (Samsung 191T) claims 75 as its native refresh rate @ 1280x1024. I have turned v-sync off, and it doesn't seem to have hurt it any...but I don't know if it helped or not either.

My LCD as the refresh listed as 60Hz or 75Hz but I prefer to use 60Hz,you can use any refresh rate that is recommended for your LCD (look in the users manual) just don`t try and go over it.
Remember LCDs response time is more important then refresh rate where gaming is concerned for LCDs,most are around 25ms ,some 17" models have 16ms which works out as 1000/16=62.5 fps, remember this is optimal.

I use 75 as the refresh rate with my v-sync off on the Dell 1800FP hook to my 9700AIW with no problems set @ 1152X864 and if I go to 1024 the refresh rate can up to 85.

doesn't matter. lcd is limited by slow pixels. refresh/vsync tweakingis pointless.

remember, with vsync on games can only run with an fps as high as your refresh rate.

With LCDs the answer is no,the response time of the LCD in question determines how fast it can respond to change in gaming so that determines overall FPS speed.

yup, and remember, 16ms response is as good as it gets right now for lcd. and thats not even a straight answer since thats going from black to white. going from color to color takes longer:)

Might just as well keep the v-sync enabled as the monitor will only display as many frames as it's refresh rate will allow. Turn it off can cause artifacts which result from multiple frames being drawn during a refresh cycle.
