v.92 modems

Haven't the V.92 modems been out since last year? They weren't much better than the V.90's from what I understand.

$60 upgrade? you can just download a new flash rom for your current v90 modem man.

as for what v92 offers, fro what i remember:

- faster upload speeds
- takes much shorter to authenticate and connect.
- you can recieve and take phone calls while online, and your modem will hold your connection, so you dont have to d/c and dial again
- slightly better compression/error correction and the like

but for this to work, your ISP must support v92 as well.

Dial-up is reality for the majority of the world's internet users, broadband simply isn't widespread enough.

Sure, if we lived in an area where we could get DSL or cable we'd jump on it in a heartbeat. But we don't.

us robotics is offering a free upgrade to v.92 for some of their v.90 modems. you have to check their site if your modem qualifies (if you have a usr modem that is).
