I have the same problem you do. Sometimes is best to break apart from eachother from a couple of minutes and then have a discussion. Arguments are never a good thing. Recognize that each of you are getting mad and calm things down...have a discussion!

My wife hates it when I stay calm and keep away from her for a few hours, so I can talk to her later. She thinks I'm ignoring her and not listenting to what she has to say - regardless of how loud and irritating it is.

The Smile and Nod trick doesn't work with her. She asks questions later to make sure I was fully inputting what she was saying. And then if I disagree, she thinks I don't understand and blah blah blah...

One thing I've learned in marriage: It's not about the woman always being right. Never was. It's about the guy always being wrong. She will admit when she's wrong, but she'll never admit when I'm right!

Currently on 2nd wife, (hope to god there will never be a need for a 3rd), some simple rules:

If you're fighting & you withdraw (emotionally or physically; which is what guys do to keep their sanity), women percieve it as you winning the damn argument.

The hardest thing to do is keep them talking, which is what you should do, women will eventually convice themselves that they've won the dispute & quit.

Also, if you can work out a time out signal or code word to table the discussion till both of you can discuss it more rationally, so much the better; it just doesn't work all the time.

One of the problems with the "Yes (insert GF/Wife's name here) for me is that as a result of abusing my ears with guns, music, unhelmeted cycle riding, & power tools for decades, many times I have no freaking thing I've agreed to & find out much later...

@ least I get to play with the bunny sometimes
