People shouldn't sell cars personally either then, right? Since you're telling people exactly where your car is, and even giving them access to the inside of your car to know what kind of security you have. You're just asking to have your car stolen.

Wanting to minimize the possibility of getting the crap kicked out of yourself (or possibly getting killed) is not paranoia. The story in the OP is a perfect example of what can happen (and does more often than many know about).

I consider my health and life to be worth that extra little bit of caution.

What's to stop those guys from following him out of Starbucks and knocking him out with a rock and robbing him? Or stealing a car on a test drive if you meet at a neutral place... at least at your own house, if you don't come back in 30mins, your family would know that somethign is probably wrong.

If i was buying a laptop (which i did previously), and some guy told me to meet him at the mall with the money (which he did, $1000), i would tell him no fvcking way (which i did).

Sh1t happens all the time. But i'll rather do business from my own place, since i'm in much more control there... and i'll rather go to somebody's house as well... because if they tried to rip me off or sell me a lemon, i know where the hell they live.

You read one article of somebody's bad experience, and now you're all paranoid. The world has 6 billion people in it, living and doing an infinite number of things. Everything that you can imagine, even the worst of it, can and will happen.

No, this was my policy long before I ever read the article. I also don't do large transactions in cash since that is just asking for trouble.

As for the test drive I required that they leave their insurance card and the vehicle they came in with a friend of mine. I'm all of about 130lbs for christ?s sake, not exactly all that physically imposing.

How could the potential buyer steal the car at a neutral site, especially in a test drive since the seller would be with him.

It seems you are even more paranoid than we are. Stoning someone outside a starbucks? When was the last time you heard about that type of sh!t? And you have to look at this from both perspectives. Would some people not worry about having to go to YOUR house for a transaction? How do they know they can trust you? That is why we go to neutral sites.

Interesting statement. That news item happened in Canada. You guys may not be "paranoid", just lacking common sense for self preservation.
