uTorrent upload,download speeds?

Installed uTorrent and started to download SuSE 10. I noticed that the download speed has been 3,4 ,5 kb/s while the upload has been 15-20kb/s. I would have thought it to be the other way around. It also seems slow since my connection is 512kb/s.

How long did you give it ? It's been reported that uTorrent connects to other machines slower than Azureus... but in my experience, after a few more minutes it's just as good.

Make sure you have the correct ports set / forwarded.

If the appropriate ports aren't forwarded in your router setup, then the torrent download speeds will always be low. You need to see which port uTorrent uses (go under Network Options in the Preferences) and see which port is listed. Then, in your router, you need to forward that port to the local IP address (not the Internet IP address provided by your ISP) of your system (ie, 192.168.xxx.xxx).

just give a call into your internet service provider... they should be able to guide you on how to change your router settings. As long as they can get you into the screen, that's all you need them for. Typically, it's a webpage like http://192.168.1.1 (and you have to enter a password).
