uTorrent problems

I've not been having any problems at all lately with uTorrent, then the other day I went to download a file. It downloaded for a couple of minutes, then stopped & gave me an I/O Device Error. I restarted the file, but got the same message. I tried a totally different file...same thing.
I googled "uTorrent I/O device error" & got some hits. I checked them out & they pretty much said hardware problems. I then changed to where I had my files downloaded to my main drive, started downloading another file & got the same message.
I'm currently running Spinrite to see if I may have bad sectors, but i'm curious as to whether anyone else has had this problem & what their issue was so I won't have to wait another 38 hours for Spinrite to get done. :)

Thanks

In the system eventlog it should say something like "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation."

The only error I found (a few similar, actually) was from source "WMI" that stated Log Name: Application

I was looking under the "applications" subcategory of "windows logs".

*Edit*
I also found the following from this morning...after I tried (unsuccessfully) to download using BitComet (although I was successful for the first torrent, but not the 2nd or 3rd). I then ran CHKDSK afterwards, but can find the log.

Log Name: Application

Still having this problem after upgrading to the newest uTorrent.
I was able to download another file, but got the error again when it was 99.7% done. I kept restarting the torrent & it finally finished.
I defrag my drives weekly, so fragmentation isn't an issue.
I ran Western Digital's drive utility on the drives & it found no problems.
I set it to override automatic cache size & manually set it to 2048mb (half my ram) after getting disk overload error.
Are there any other settings I may be overlooking that I need to change?

You might try booting in Safe Mode and trying a download... if you can download successfully in safe mode, then it's likely a software issue and not hardware.

I booted into safe mode, started uTorrent & tried to resume the download i've been getting error messages with.
I still got the same error message.

I noticed I had a s**t-load of the following errors when I went back to the event log:

Event11,atapi
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort3

What exactly does that mean? Bad motherboard? CPU? The drives tested fine as did the memory.

Good question!
I have no IDE devices, only SATA.

*Edit*
I checked my motherboard's user manual & the device that's plugged into SATA3 is one of my optical drives.

I'm running Vista, if that matters & I have no SCSI devices.
I checked out that site, but cannot determine anything about checking the Model Number and Firmware Revision of my SATA drives...or is it possible?
Is there an issue with the WD6400AAKS's?

The actual type of device doesn't matter much, ATAPI is essentially SCSI over ATA.

As for the real problem, it's hard to say. Do you have another controller that you could move your disks to? I don't know how easy that will be since you're running Windows though.

My drives are plugged into the SATA ports on the motherboard.
I did start another torrent...2 actually...and had them to download onto my "C" drive instead of my "D" drive. So far one's completed & the other's 90% done.
I'll run another WD test on my "D" drive, but if it doesn't turn up any errors, how could I RMA it? Or should I try plugging it into another SATA port?
