Utility to read Smart Battery info (SBD or SM Bus) from laptop battery?

Anyone know of a utility, either buried in the depths of Windows or a 3rd party app, that can read and display all available data from a 'smart' laptop battery pack?

I know the battery 'fuel gauge' info typically comes out via this data bus, and I suspect there's a lot more available such as perhaps number of charge cycles, max depth of discharge, build date, etc etc.

I'm nerd enough to think it would be cool to know this stuff, plus I recently purchased a 'new' battery that I'd like to, um, know a bit more about.

Brief Google has turned up something called BatteryScope, but not on the kinds of sites I'd want to download anything from.

Any suggestions from the technoids here would be appreciated!

How old is the laptop you bought the battery for? The battery could have been sitting on the shelf for a long time, which leads to degradation.

I believe that NHC can check battery wear (how much it actually holds vs. how much it is supposed to hold).

Laptop's brand new, predecessor model (uses same battery) was introduced a year ago... so at least the battery's not ancient. Battery takes charge, shows good estimated run time, and actually appears to give good run time (decent capacity).

So I'm not feeling ripped off... merely curious (at this point).

You're right, this function in NHC

is a good start on what I'm looking for. Still wondering if there's more info that can be pulled out of the battery chip.

Thanks for the comments!

I have no idea what else can be pulled out of the battery chip. I know with Ubuntu, I was able to see a lot more info about the battery, but I don't know if most of it was from the chip.
