utilities safe for vista

hey guys
i had downloaded and installed system mechanic pro 7....well after running it and restarting the laptop, my vista didnt work at all, i had to reinstall windows, anyone know something that work fine and wouldnt mess up anything ?
something to optimize my computer.

I don't use anything to optimize my Vista, and it runs just as good as the day I installed it(about 7 months now)
