Man in pokey after reporting purloined pot

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

OREM, Utah -- An man who called police to report the theft of a quarter-pound of marijuana was arrested when police recovered the bag of pot and then invited him to come to the Public Safety Building to identify it.

Kory C. Tippetts, 18, identified the pot as his and then was arrested and booked into the Utah County jail for investigation of possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone with intent to distribute, police said Tuesday.

Tippetts had called police on Monday evening after he returned home and found that someone had broken a window, got cut on the glass, and crawled into the house. Tippetts told police the only thing missing was the quarter-pound of marijuana he was selling.

Tippetts also told officers that earlier in the day a man had called him about buying some marijuana, but he was on his way to work and told the caller no.

Tippetts gave police the man's name.

Officers found Richard W. Hight, 23, at his mother's home in Provo. He had a cut on his arm and blood-soaked pants. Police also recovered six ounces of marijuana at the home.

Hight was arrested for investigation of burglary, theft and possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone with intent to distribute and booked into the Utah County jail.

The funny thing is that this isn't the first time people have reported theft of drugs.

I really wonder what goes through people's minds when they decide to call the cops about their missing narcotics.
He must have been baked out of his mind.

Stupid people certainly don't get smarter when they smoke.
I have no doubt that this genius would have figured out another way to really screw himself had he not done this.

I think a lot of people tend to forget that pot is illegal... that's all I can figure.

Yes I agree this guy lacked intelligence, however which do you think is worse, marijuana or alcohol?

Inquiring minds want to know.

PS. This sorta reminds me of the show Cops where two prostitutes were fighting and telling the police openly on camera that they were prostitutes and one had stolen drugs from the other!

WTF?

HAHA!
I loved that episode.

"I don't sell crack, I'm a prostitute."

isnt that entrapment?
Are you kidding?
Not in the slightest.

so can they go ahead and arrest anyone who at one time possesed something illegal?
I believe had he just reported it he wouldn't have gotten in trouble.
What he did was go to the police station to reclaim his property. Unfortunetly for him his property was illegal.
At least it was a short trip to get booked. 😀

yeah and that sounds like entrapment. Police giving him something illegal on-purpose in order to arrest him for it.....

LOL, there was a similar incident on cops one time, apparently this woman was trying to buy crack and gave another woman $20, who then told her to get lost. So she decides to call the police and proceeded to tell them that she had been taken for $20 on the transaction. She was arrested, and when the officers questioned the other woman she said "I'm not a drug dealer I'm a prostitute" She was also arrested IIRC heh.

I'm no lawyer, but entrapment is defined by coercion. The man walked into the station of his own accord to get his pot.
