Well the point of my earlier post was that in many places society has determined that 14 year olds ARE accountable enough to decide to consent to sex. I may not totally agree, but nonetheless that is the law in those places. (Seems strange though - you may not be able to drink until 21, you can't vote until 18, but you can decide to get knocked up at 14.)

Plus, if the cut off is say, 16, the courts are going to be much more lenient on an 18.1 year old with a 15.9 year old than a 30 year old with a 12 year old, for obvious reasons.
