Meh, I am really disapointed in the U3 engine. UT99 was far better for massive outside environments. UT2k4 was good too. But the UT3 demo outside environments so far suck. I haven't seen a U3 based game yet have good outside environments. While games like Crysis and even the Doom3/Quake4 enhanced Quake Wars engine handle outside environments pretty damned well.

All in all, the jury is till out on the U3 engine currently for me.

I agree, except for the excited part. The server browser was the biggest POS I have ever been subjected to in a video game.

I never thought I would say a server browser is worse than BF2's, but it is.

QFT.

The menus/UI are a joke and the server browser is beyond hopeless. They'd better have magically fixed the random frequency/time period lag that was affecting everyone too. 2 second delay = epic fail.

I do. It doesn't filter properly and it shows about 5 times more servers that don't actually exist than the ones that do. It doesn't report ping properly and the refresh sometimes forgets its filter settings.

Yeah, I had problems with the Server Browser. T'was a big steaming pile... I had to rely on luck to find a server with a decent ping.

Compare it with any of the previous UTs, and the problems will be quite evident.

Server Browser is the worst Browser in gaming history. With that said, Im excited about UT3! I hope Fry's has it on sale on release date. Where is everyone preordering from?

It was god-awful, really. The UT 2004 server browser was full-bodied and offered lots of options and the UT99 browser wasn't too shabby, either.

I have a hard time imagining that Epic would release a horrific server browser unless it's part of their deal with Gamespy and Gamespy is sticking it to them. (After Atari and Digital Extremes, you'd think they'd have learned their lesson by now.)

However, I can't, for the life of me, understand why they included the POS they did with the Demo. Many people have never seen the UT99 and UT 2004 browsers and have no idea that they can do better! All people have been able to come up with is that they were in a big hurry to get the demo out to shut people up and they just tossed in a far-from-finished browser.

This is actually my #1 concern because such a god-awful browser could kill the game. Mark Rein said something to the effect that, obviously, the browser needs some work. That's great, but we haven't heard anything from Epic about it since--no words of reassurance, etc.

Yeah they did say they knew of the issues with the browser. Personally, I think it blows that we got somewhat of a lame duck BETA Demo, then no real communications or bug fixes from Epic, and now just are sitting here hoping things get fixed.

I remember UT2K4 and Torlan being a great demo and intro to Onslaught, now we get no Warfare and no polished Demo prior to release. Suckage imo.

Sad b/c there are a crapload of polished games out or coming out soon in addition to UT3. I guess we shall see. If Warfare is beefed up Assault, I'm going to pass.

When the UT2K4 demo hit, I played nothing but that demo from the day it was released, until the day the full game was released.

I budget for one game month. Over most of the last year, I've only bought 3 games. Nothing really caught my eye. But lately, there's been a constant stream of huge AAA titles, and I can't finish or get bored of one before the next one hits. You would think that with the kind of competition out there right now, you would see only the most polished demos get released.

Just need mIRC for it to work.

Seems quite good, though it may have a bug or two as it's very new.
Yup, this guy made one for 2k4, and then made an even more kickass one for Q4, which is what the UT3 one was ported from. I <3 the one for Q4, and once he expands this one, it'll be great. Obviously, I'll use this instead of the in-game browser regardless, but it would be nice for the noobs to actually be able to find a server.

It can't sort things.
It organises by first number -> second number -> etc

So if you have 5 servers with pings of 80, 120, 230, 250 and 700 and you sort by pings, your server list will be:
120
230
250
700
80

Since 1 comes before 2 which is before 7 which is before 8.

That is a broken server browser. And only one of the bad things about it.
