why overclock a 9800XT?

and "64MB GF2 MX400. 1024x768, all of the eye-candy on." - is NOT a smooth like butter videocard for this game.....

9800AIW here!

Isekii, get a 9600XT, great price/perf ratio

And if you didn't know that, you're reminded every time you start the game.

Please bear in mind that most of these people if not all of them are talking about the demo which didn't include as many textures as you will see in the full version. I loved the eye-candy in UT2003 and I'm sure I'll love it in UT2004, but it is a shooter after all and framerate is life. So, if I were me, and I am, I'd get a card that will let you enjoy slighter higher than default settings while still cranking out the fps. With the 9800 Pro around $200, I'd say that's the bang for the buck card of the moment.

Enjoy!

Beat me to the punch. The Retail game s supposed to have a LOT more textures. So the demo is like the low quality version, I can't wait for the full reatil one.

Also how many different areas does the retail game have?

I seriously doubt a 8500 won't be able to handle the retail version. You may not get all the eye candy, but then again chances are at max resolution and all eye candy on neither can the best card handle it.

You have to find your own comfort level of game play.

As far as skipping that sounds like lag problems. Are you playing on a broadband connection?

Better question...
Why not? :D

I have an AIW Radeon 9700 Pro and I won't even TOUCH an overclocking tool. There is no way I am going to risk burning up this baby.

NeoV: That's funny, I've seen it run on a slightly faster system with a Ti4600, and it seemed to play the same as my system does. I'm sure the final version will challenge it more, but seriously, it only lags when I get on a crappy high-ping server :)

What is your CPU, because that can also affect the performance of the game.
My CPU, while not being awful, is awful (XP1900+ isn't THAT bad, but the VIA chipset sucks, and I think the whole thing underperforms.) I have a 9800Pro but that doesn't seem to help matters much (no real improvement over my Ti4400), so I think it's a CPU/mobo issue that makes it run like crap for me, so look into a new CPU or mobo, not just GFX card, either instead or as well (if you have the $$$).

Any idea how it will run on the following:

Barton 2800+
512MB DDR PC3200
GF3 ti200

I can only afford to upgrade my cpu/mobo/ram at the moment.. that's why the discrepancy...

Currently getting 15fps on my 1.0GHz / 384MB PC133. Was previously told that putting a 9800 pro with these old specs would be USELESS. So I'm going about it the other way for now.

it might be a server but I'm on a cable connection 3mb down 384k up.

Also it happens on my school lan connection.
It's probably the lag, but it only gets bad when there is a huge battle.

It doesn't happen on my school machine tho. Radeon 9600 NP.

I'll most likely need to upgrade the card at home however 8500LE.
