UT2K4 Installation Troubles

Well I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and I'm still not back to normal so I decided to get UT2K4 to play for a few days. When I am trying to install it (I got the DVD edition) I get the same error everytime, although not at the same time in every installation. It says to try cleaning the media or inspect the drive then reinstall. Anyone ever heard of anything like this? The DVD is brand new and scratch-free and it won't load in either of my DVD-rom drives (Nec 2500A and Samsung). Really dissapointing.

Just made an image of the DVD onto my HD with alcohol 120 and tried installing from there but still no luck. Do I just have a bad disc?

Happened to me on a brand new out of the box DVD...

Tried it again, cleaned the cd-rom and it worked..

Switch drives maybe?

I've tried both drives, even made an image out of it and ran it from a virtual drive...cleaned it a few times too.

I would blame safedisc/macrovision

ut2k4 dvds have exhibited 2 problems FAIK.
1) old dvd drives can't read media (corruption error)
2) your problem

I've seen a response by epic to one user about there being some corrupt dvds. in that case, take it back to the store. you might try upgrading the firmware in your drives.

otherwise try the game on someone elses computer

i ended up buying a new drive because of problem #1

This sucks, now my harddrive is going bonkers. (see my latest thread also in the general section). The problems never end.

disable any virtual cd programs

Try this:

1) pop cd/dvd in drive

2) kill the Autorun menu

3) Explore to the CD/DVD main directory

4) run Setup.exe
