UT2k3 driver problem

I have the 128MB 8500 radeonLE retail version, and i was using the 2.2 catalyst drivers, and i was getting really big image tearing, especially when i was in bigger rooms in UT2K3, when i went to the 2.3 cat's image quality improved some, but now textures are either invisible in certain parts or semi transparent. this is only when i'm in d3d mode. in OGL textures are fine, but I like eye candy😛. i did the complete uninstall before i installed the 2.3's I just don't know what else to try.

BTW i'm running a tbird 1.0 ghz, epox 8k7a+ and micron 2100 ram if that matters at all.

please offer any advice,
