I just DL'd the demo and ran the built in benchmark program at various resolutions. Here are the results:

Version: 1077 (120.28)
Compiled: Sep 13 2002 17:42:16
Build label: UT2003 Build UT2003_Build_[2002-09-13_17.31]

System:
AthlonXP 1600+ (1.4GHz)
Shuttle AK31A (KT266A) mobo
512MB Crucial PC2100
Gainward GF4 Ti4200 64MB (250/500) [Detonator 30.82 WHQL Certified]
WindowsXP Professional w/Servce Pack 1

The benchmark runs with settings at "MAX DETAIL" and consists of four tests:
1)Outdoor Map Flythrough
2)Indoor Map Flythrough
3)Outdoor Map Bot Battle (12 bots)
4)Indoor Map Bot Battle (12 bots)

The results given are simply two numbers; flythrough average and bot average.

Results:
1600x1200x32
Flythrough--62.5
Bot-----------37.2

1024x768x32
Flythrough--123.9
Bot-----------47.9

800x600x32
Flythrough--144.0
Bot-----------48.0

I then tested using the overclocked settings of 150fsbx10.5 (1575MHz); GF4 @ 280/560

Results:
1600x1200x32
Flythrough--69.7
Bot-----------41.5

1024x768x32
Flythrough--138.3
Bot-----------53.8

800x600x32
Flythrough--161.8
Bot-----------54.1

Anyone with a higher-end system wish to run the benchmarks so we can have some comparisons?

How do you benchmark??

I have a P41.6a @ 2400mhz and a Geforce 4 TI 4200 but it is WAY OCed.

Also you should turn on your PM in your profile.

In C:\..\UT2003Demo\System there is a program called "Benchmark.exe". You simply run that and choose a resolution and then it runs and gives you the results afterward.

I will turn PM on now.

You can also go into the UT2003/Benchmark folder.
It has a selection of 7 benchmarks there, and it automatically runs at max detail.

It will give you a readout of minimum/average/peak frame rates recorded, along with a "Score" calculated from the three.
Also for those benchmarks if you go into UT2003Demo\Benchmark\CSVs directory there is a file that will give you a detailed frame-by-frame readout.

Quite a lot of options for benchmarking...

How about benchmarking after the game is loaded? for some reason I cant run this game in full screen mode, it reboots my system, so I started the game in safe mode and it loaded but the screen was messed up, flickering sort of, I tried all resolutions at full screen in safe mode and saw the same thing, when I switched to windowed mode it was fine, I ended up setting my desktop to 1280x1024 and running the game at 1280x960 in a window, it looks awesome and plays smooth.

so, how to run the benchmark in a window, and why cant I run the game full screen? (ti4600, 40.xx dets, winxp, p4 1.6a no o/c, p4s333)

Taken from NV news,

My system consists of an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ CPU, nForce motherboard with 256MB of RAM, SB Live Value, and GeForce4 Ti 4600 running under Windows XP (without SP1). FRAPS was running in the background and each match lasted around 3 minutes. The results are based on an average of two matches played per resolution. No *gasp* antialiasing or anisotropic filtering *gasp* were used :)

DM-Antalus - Outdoor Map

1600x1200 - Avg: 35.377 - Min: 24 - Max: 60

1280x1024 - Avg: 45.436 - Min: 28 - Max: 80

1280x960 - Avg: 48.627 - Min: 34 - Max: 84

1024x768 - Avg: 57.086 - Min: 36 - Max: 98

DM-Asbestos - Indoor Map

1600x1200 - Avg: 53.641 - Min: 29 - Max: 92

1280x1024 - Avg: 65.573 - Min: 38 - Max: 107

1280x960 - Avg: 66.692 - Min: 42 - Max: 126

1024x768 - Avg: 76.186 - Min: 45 - Max: 132

So far, my sweet spot is somewhere between 1024x768 and 1280x960 :)

Drop to the 30.XX Det's, the UT Readme mentions there are a lot of stability/visual problems with the 40.XX drivers and they strongly recommend not using them.

I said it was taken from NV News website ;),I`m still downloading the demo(on 56k here).

Thanks for the info Rand I`ll try it out with my 40.41 drivers and see how good or bad it is once I`ve the demo downloaded.

what scares me is the fact that the textures aren't hi-res...does this mean our fps are gonna drop even more in the full version?!

They probably got the 1280x1024 resolution by actually messing with the games reolution setting then running the individual scripts in the ut2003/benckmark folder. Running it like this gives you the old style min, avg, max frame rates.

Anyway, it looks like anyone with an average DX7 card will be looking to upgrade soon:
Duron 900@1050MHz
Geforce DDR

640x480
Flyby: 75.532349
Botmatch: 27.661203

800x600
59.041737
25.578428

1024x768
38.950768
21.326555

1280x960
24.372915
15.139441

1600x1200
22.795544
15.639626

After 1024x768, it just runs out of power. Definitely graphics card limited. Switching between 32-bit and 16-bit colour has minimal effect, resolution change is more noticable in terms of speed.

Actually they just used FRAPS: www.fraps.com while they were actually playing the game with that resolution. FRAPS shows your framerate in most DX/OGL games and can be used for benchmarking as well.

Initial Benchmark was either a typo or a fluke. Anyone know of these numbers are good for the system I have?

what scares me is the fact that the textures aren't hi-res...does this mean our fps are gonna drop even more in the full version?!

Wouldn't texture compression make the performance difference minimal? The more memory you have on your video card, the better anyway.

I have the high-res textures for the maps Antalus and Asbestos from an earlier build of the game. Some of them don't seem to work with this new build but if I can pick out all of the ones that do I will post some more benchmarks using them. Here is a screenshot I took so you can see just how large these old textures are: UT2k3Textures Screenshot.

OK here are the maximum visual quality settings:

-1600x1200x32
-8 sample aniso
-"4xS" AA
-Mipmap detail "Best image quality"

With the default speeds for my system:

Flyby: 15.1
Botmatch: 9.4

Who needs 3GHz and a Radeon 9700 when you can get blazing speeds like these with budget hardware?

edit: these are using the texture included with the demo.

Okay, here are my results for my P4 system:

2.5GHz P4
1.25GB PC800 ECC
ATI Radeon DDR 32MB <-- needs help

Results:
1280x960x32
Flythrough--23.4
Bot-----------16.2

1024x768x32
Flythrough--35.6
Bot-----------23.9

800x600x32
Flythrough--42.0
Bot-----------32.2

640x480x32
Flythrough--69.2
Bot-----------39.7

Okay, now I am convinced I need a new video card. In fact I just ordered a Prolink GF4 Ti4200 128MB :D I kept waiting until a game came around that I wanted to play that needed a new card. Oh yeah, I don't think 24fps at 10x7 is going to cut it.

Flythrough--81.2
Bot-----------36.2

All in all I'm reasonably pleased, my system seems to be handling it quite well considering the hardware in use.
I'm decently close to systems with slightly faster processors and GF4 Ti graphics cards, so I can't say I have any reason to be disappointed in my results.

I'll post up more results later when I have more time....
