UT2004 issues

Okay, so I've built a new rig for gaming as follows:

AMD64 3800+
2x 512 Muskin blue
GA-K8N Ultra-9
GeForce 6800U PCIE
200gb seagate SATA
500w FSP Bluestorm
Win XP pro sp2

So, windows installs without any major issues, I configure everything to my liking (like disabling auto-reboot) and I move all my update files from my old win98 machine accross my network. The computer was running fine, so I decided to go ahead and load 2K4. The install runs fine, I update 2k4 to the latest version and install the EC bonnus pack, and after about 5mins of play, crash: critical error. This happens consistantly after playing for 5-10mins. I checked my temps and they were cool: ~55C for processor and ~65C for the GPU as the highest temps. I have the latest nvidia drivers and my system has not been overclocked. The system hasn't been connected to the internet eaither, and as far as I know the update files I transferred were clean, as they have not caused a problem for me in the past.

NOTE: the error message stated my processor was clocked at 2415mhz, but my BIOS says my FSB = 200 and my processor mult. is fixed at 12x. I checked my timings in windows through everest home edition and it said my FSB = 200, my mem clock = 201 and thus my processor's clock = ~2412. I don't know if this could be a possible issue. I dropped this post onto the overclocking forum and they said that 15mhz shouldn't cause a problem. I also posted on tech support, but there have been no bites after a week or so.

I do not have the actual error message, since I'm not at home right now.

dunno if this will help but whenever i try to play with sound on H/W 3D + EAX then mine crashes

Yeah, I've tried running in safe mode sound, and I've even completely disabled my sound through BIOS (since it's integrated onto my mobo).

The guys on the overclocking forum say I'm overheating though. I'll post when I get to test that theory.

Umm.. Not following, can you explain?

EDIT: Got all the mobo/chipset and gfx drivers updated?

Did you ever run memtest86 or other benchies on the new build?

Sorry, I was not cleat as far as the update files go, I just to say that the network works on it, and I have the latest version of 2k4. I also moved utilities like speedfan/everest over.

I have run memtest 86. My ram passed 3 passes without errors. (I guess I could run more, If I must) But I don't think ram is an issue as I have done a full surface scan of my hardrive and (as of today) transferred 3+gb of clean data and have had no issues with other games such as KOTOR or Halo (I've played both 6+hrs with no issues). I can also run 3Dmark 05 without issue. Before I began messing with it, a few tech guys ran a stress test on it for 13+hrs testing ram read/write and acessing all of my ports with no issues.

I have the current nvidia nforce 4 stand alone drivers installed, as well as the latest drivers for my GPU.

(sorry I'm slow on the post I had a few suggestions I needed to try on it before I could post again)

2k4 has been giving me a variety of critical errors since I've benn playing around with it. Sometimes it's a General protection fault, sometimes its an "Assertation failed." And every once in a great while I get a BSOD. The BSODs are not consistant either. Sometimes its paged memory in nonpaged area, sometimes is an IRQL, and sometimes it says nothing at all. Come to think of it, I should probably try to re-install it (which is a pain for 6CDs and as many gigs) unless you have any other suggestions.

FYI: I have no logitech software/hardware. 2k4 has known issues with it.

I error out when my cpu is too hot I think. My temps don't look too bad, but when I get to about 40c my comp reboots, or UT2k4 crashes. I manually turn my fans up and down, and when I forget to turn them up is when I get a problem. I've got a P4 3.06 @ 3.49 and am reading my temps off the mb socket sensor, so maybe I'm hotter than the temps indicate. I thought I'd be good up to about 55-60.

Sorry for the ramble :^), but I think it may be temps also. Try reseting your hsf, and make sure all fans are working properly.

UT2k4 is an incredibly good system stability tester, often better than all the benchmark/stress programs out there.

It sounds like something is not right with your hardware...

I'd try Memtest for a while longer, & make sure you have the latest UT2k4 patches.
