ut2003 video problem - please read

just installed ut2003 to test out my new geforcefx 5600, and when i start the game i just hear the music playing with a black screen. if i wait a little bit the screen shows for a second, revealing that its all blurred out, like if you set your monitor hz rate too high or something. the thing is though, i am using a lcd monitor, and its set to let application choose hz rate already. if i try upgrading to the latest patch (2225), it won't start at all, and gives a error saying it can't find tauntpack. i even tried decompressing the tauntpack from the cd into the install directory, and then it just gives me an error message saying can't find newdeath. anyone have any ideas? i'm out of them.
 
usually with lcd monitors you don't want to have it set to let the application choose the refresh rate. it wants to stay at a fixed rate.

so probably it is changing into a rate not compatible with your LCD.
