UT2003 and Windows XP pagefile?

Whenever I play UT2003 I get terrible jerkiness for the first 30 seconds or so. Afterwards upon returning to the desktop I notice a message in the tasktray warning me that my virtual memory is set too low. I have 512MB of RAM, and my pagefile is locked at 200MB. This only seems to happen when I play UT2003, no other games. I always have SETI, BlackIce, NAV2003, MBM5 and MSN Messenger running in the background. Is 512MB + 200MB not enough? If you are playing this game how much RAM do you have and what is you pagefile set to (perhaps you just let Windows manage this for you?).

Thanks

testing different configs resulted in no performance advantages for me (with XP), so I just leave it at default. I'd bump it up a couple hundred mb, if you're set on setting it yourself. Good luck! 🙂

I used to set my pagefile to a specific amount in XP until I started having problems with games. Specifically NWN and Baldur's Gate. It did not like it. I wouldn't be suprised if other games don't like it either.

would be nice if the memory subsystem worked well without swap space....even ppl with insane amounts of RAM have problems. Some programs will not run unless swap is detected also. 🙁

According to CPU magazine, there is no benefit to managing your pagefile manually unless you are putting it on a seperate partition so that it uses the faster part of the disc. Windows, by default, will set the pagefile size to 1.5x your physical memory size. Your pagefile should be 768MB
