Hi all... just installed an Elsa SDR GeForce in a friend's computer, upgrade from a Rage Fury Pro. Install went fine, no problems with several games (Alien vs. Predator, Half-Life, Q3) until we got to UT. Running UT, the system has experienced repeated hangs, and it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out (i'm not really a gamer, so i don't know if there are any issues with UT that i'm not aware of).

My bud isn't worried about speed, he just wants stable. Hardware-wise, he has a Tyan 400 (S1854 rev. C) mobo with a C2/566 (unclocked), 128 megs of Kingmax pc-133 sdram, a SB Live Gamer, Maxtor 20gig, and plain vanilla OEM everything else.

Is there an issue with the GeForce and UT, or a known hardware conflict with the vidcard and any other hardware i have listed? I know this topic has probably been broached a million times already, and i repeat for dragging up another GeForce problem thread, but i'm at a loss... any help or advice would be appreciated... thanks....

first of all:

was this an oem purchase?

if so, this might be a problem that many people have and never quite figure out.

Different RAM modules go into oem products: translation - OEM products are suck

ya get what you pay for...

Secondly,

the drivers are in question here, and whether you installed them properly.

nvidia's detonator 6.26 drivers made my video card (asus v6800 Geforce DDR) act like it was on steroids.

I used the 5.13, 5.3x, 6.11, 6.18 (yuck) and the 6.27 ...

the best of the bunch (for me) was the 6.26

this is with complete fresh installs each time (I format regularly)

You really should use the 5.3x series (I had alot of luck with the 5.33 drivers)

go to sites like www.tweak3d.net to learn the proper way to install a video card (look under guides)

also check around for the detonators, I had similar slow downs with UT until I got the right drivers.

Good luck

Oh, and if you got the OEM version of this card, and nothing helps it...return the card and claim performance issues. I got a new Hercules GF2 MX that way...

It's a (used) retail version that was bought here on the Anand FS/FT forums. Right now, it's the Elsa drivers installed, not the Detonators. You would think and hope that the original drivers provided by the manufacturer would be stable, but perhaps that's not the case....
