Ut 2k4 problems

my friend just bought UT2004, and he has a problem with it. when he plays a single player game he gets lag like he is playing online with a slow dial up connection. when he plays a single player game all the other computer players lag a ton. but when he plays multiplayer the game works fine.

i have virtually the same computer, but it works great for me.
he has reformated his computer a few time now, and tried at least 4 different sets of ATI drivers.

any sugestions?

Does he have all the other drivers installed properly? (chipset, etc?). Single player with a bunch of computer players is heavily CPU dependant, is his cpu set properly in the bios? Also, check and make sure DMA is enabled on his drives. Other than that, are there any differences between your computers?

Make sure "Preload All Player Skins" is unchecked.

the preload player skins is off. i am sure he has installed all the drivers alright. we actually just installed the new patch for UT1004 that came out a few days ago and that seemed to help. yesterday it was working really well after that was installed.

Yeah, I've noticed a few people saying that the patch helped improve their performance some. Seems to be working that way for me too, but I haven't noticed any huge difference.

If it's still having problems the next step would be to disable AA & AF if it isn't already. And make sure to close all other open programs. After that I guess you'd have to try lowering the texture quality and such, and/or the resolution.

Try some of the beta drivers at www.3dchipset.com. I hear they help with a good majority of things.
