USS BigDawg NCC-2650 maintaining structural integrity at warp 15

15 wu's/day 🙂

Dell PowerEdge 2650
Dual 2.4 GHz Xeons (400 MHz FSB)
1 GB Registered DDR
5 x 36 GB Atlas 10K SCSI hard drives
PERC3/Di RAID
Dual Gigabit Ethernet
Redundant 500 watt power supplies

We got this puppy refurbished for around $2900. 🙂

Even though that's a pretty darn good price, it's a bit disappointing in the S@H performance/$$$ category when you consider that I recently built myself an XP 2500 Barton system at 2.0 GHz for around $500 that cranks out 10 wu's per day... :Q

Nice rig! ,do those CPUs support HT?
Yes, they do. 🙂

Is HT enabled?

Which OS are you using? Standard Windows 2000 Professional will only use the 2 physical cpus. I think you'll need at least Windows 2000 server to take advantage of HT.

HT is enabled. Running Windows 2000 Server. Task manager shows four CPU's.

If I process two wu's at a time, I average approximately 3:20 per wu. If I process four wu's at a time (1 in each logical cpu), I average almost exactly double that. 15-16 wu's per day if I run two at a time or four at a time.

Wierd😕 ,I guess HT needs 800MHz FSB to work decently ,usually you get more WUs if HT is utilised

Found this link to a thread at 2cpu.com about win2k and HT. From the looks of it and a link they give to Intel all versions of win2k don't play well with HT. Yes they recognize the virtual processors but they don't utilize them properly.

So is there any chance of switching to either XP PRo or Server 2003? 😉

I would be willing to bet that it would run better on Win 2003 Server. I know when I fired up some HT servers for "burn-in" the hyperthreading on Win 2K3 was much better than the Win2K servers.
